Part 235: Recovery

Shannon opened the door to the cabin and felt for the light switch on the right side. Eventually she found the left side of the wall and clicked the switch. The tall blonde smiled as the lights lit up and flooded the room. Inside there was three medical beds, six cabinets, two sinks and several boxes with a red cross on them. The woman was happy she found the Liberation’s infiramary. She turned around and waved to her friends. “JACK!” she screamed, “I FOUND IT!”

Jack and Mia began to escort John in the direction of Shannon’s calling. They walked a few more paces and then entered the medical building. John grunted as his friends placed him next to a bed. Mia helped him take off the remaining of his quiver and then the archer moaned as he laid onto the bed. He gritted his teeth as his face couldn’t stop stinging. Jack walked over to the cabinets and looked at the medicine vials. He read them one at a time, putting aside the ones he needed. Then he grabbed some sterile latex gloves and walked to the sink, washing his hands. “Shannon,” he said, without turning his head, “Go outside and tell all the wounded to get over here.”

“Sure,” she said, leaving the building.

“I hate to break the news to you, Jack,” John muttered, “But you are wounded yourself.”

“I’ll take care of everybody else and look at myself last.”

Mia held onto John’s hand. Jack grabbed some more supplies, like the needle and medical wire. He walked back over and put a turniket on the archer’s arm. He felt for a vein in his arm and then injected with the contents of a vial he found. “What is that?” he asked.

“Antibotic,” Jack smirked, “I could have used these a few days ago.”

As Jack began to clean John’s wound for stitching, Mandy slowly brought Seth in who was holding his side. Then Sayid peaked in through the door, motioned for Kellye to go in. The curly strawberry blonde walked over to a nearby bed, holding her bleeding arm. Jack huffed as he looked like he would be busy for the next hour or two. He hoped McKay and the others got Tony back safely. He could use the extra hands.

Jack got the needle and wire ready for John’s face. “You ready?” he asked him.

“Do I have a choice?” John winced.

Mia held onto his hand, not sure if she wanted to look at him while he gets sewn up. Sayid then came back in and got her attention. “Mia, “ he whispered, “Locke would like you back in that computer control room.”

“Tell him to wait, I can’t leave John,” she said, holding onto his hand.

“Go on, honey,” the archer smiled, “I will be fine.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah, I know I am in good hands.” John smiled as he closed his eyes.

“Go on, Mia. I promise I will have him fixed up.” Jack winked at her.

Mia kissed John’s hand and slowly let go. As she turned around, she saw Seth laying on his side on the bed; holding the wound on his side. “You okay, Seth?” she said, gently rubbing his head.

“Don’t feel a thing, sis,” he winked at her.

Mia kissed him on the head and then finally walked out of the infirmary. The survivors were mulling around outside. Ana-Lucia was next to the broken pipe spilling water. She cupped some water in her hand and splashed it onto her face. Joscelyn was walking with Hurley and Taylor to another part of the cabins. Alexander had been reunited with Andra and was comforting her over the loss of her mother. Sayid was talking with Shannon, while he stood ten feet from the remaining soldiers. Micheal, Walt, Yolanda, Sun and Jin had emerged from the woods; relatively unscathed. Mia walked on, noticing Jenny was following the masked man, who seemed intent on looking through all the cabins.

Then Mia smiled as the second jeep arrived back. Kate and Marita gently helped Tony out of the back of the vehicle. “Guys,” Mia jogged over them, “Head back toward the far cabin there, Jack found the infirmary.”

“Wonderful,” Tony moaned.

“Good to see you with sunglasses, Tony,” the Lakota girl smirked.

“You like’em?” he chuckled, “I think they were Belmonts.”

The group continued to walk toward the medical building while Sawyer joined Sayid by the grouping of soldiers. McKay embraced Taylor and Mandy, happy they were reunited. Mia then walked up toward the main computer building. She walked into the room noticing Locke standing by the entrance to the remains of the Awakening Room. Mia also noticed the body of Cassandra and the skeletal remains of Jones were no where to be see. “Where are the dead people?” she asked.

“I threw them down the shaft,” the bald man smiled, “I figured it would be easier to understand this machine without them around.”

“We’ve been through a lot, haven’t we?” Mia sighed.

“And we are still here. What does that tell you?”

“That we have help from high above?” she smirked.

“Makes you feel your faith is justified, eh?” Locke smiled his warm smile like Mia always loved.

“So, you want to talk to Watchman?” she said, sitting down in front of the main keyboard.

“Even though we have lived through this day, there are still questions that need answering,” Locke said, sitting on a chair next to her, “Like for instance, how those beings in the Hatch knew my name?”

Mia then began to type, “Status of memory core, Watchman.”

WARNING. POWER USAGE IS HOLDING BUT MEMORY CORE IS NOW REDUCED TO 31%. CONTINUAL USAGE OF WATCHMAN WILL REDUCE MEMORY CORE.

“His memory core is fading?” Locke commented.

“Watchman’s memory core must have been damaged some how,” The Lakota girl sighed, “He said that when his memory core is reduced to 15% he will activate a failsafe feature to transfer the remaining code into the MOLE unit. What happens at that point I don’t know yet.”

“Can you asked him about the Jaeger Unit called Helen?”

Mia typed, “Watchman, why does Helen know Locke?”

SHE DOES NOT.

“What?” Locke rubbed his chin, “But he said he had files on me, because of her.”

“If Helen does not know Locke, “ Mia typed, “Why does she have files on him?”

HELEN DOWNLOADED FILES OF LOCKE TO MAIN CORE. WATCHMAN HAS FILES ON LOCK FROM RESULT OF TRANSFER. HELEN IS THE ONLY JAEGER UNIT THAT HAS THE ABILITY TO TRANSFER DIRECTLY INTO MEMORY CORE DUE TO ABILITY.

“What ability?” the young woman typed.

PSYCHIC PROBE.

“Psychic . . .probe?” the old man whispered, “She . . .she . . .she’s a mind reader?”

“Do you think she read your mind . . .and downloaded files of you into the computer?” Mia asked him.

“But for what purpose . . .” Locke then rolled his eyes as he finally came to a realization. Mia looked at him curiosity, wondering what he just thought of. He slowly leaned his head upward, looking at Mia through teary eyes. “Does Watchman know when Helen was placed in the hatch?” he asked.

“Watchman, “ Mia typed, “When did Helen get placed into storage facility?”

ALL UNITS PLACED IN STORAGE HOLD ON DECEMBER 12TH, 1957

Locke wiped the tears from his eyes. “It’s not her.” He whispered.

“It’s not who?” Mia asked.

“There was an important woman in my life . . .her name was Helen,” the bald man sniffed, “This Helen in the Hatch . . .she must have read my mind and knew . . .the connection I had. She was hoping I would help her.”

“I am sorry, sir,” Mia said, realizing how much pain this was causing him.

“Well, is there . . .” he stopped crying, “Is there any way to find out what the Locke files are?”

“Watchman, pull up Locke files,” she typed.

LOCKE FILES ENABLED.
ONE MESSAGE > PLAY? Y/N

Mia typed in Y.

LOCK_
YOU M__T HE_P US P_E_SE ACT_VATE SPEC__________

WARNING
MESSAGE IS INCOMPLETE

“What?” Locke grunted, “Why?”

“Why is the message incomplete?” Mia typed.

HELEN WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE TRANSFER DUE TO MEMORY CORE DEFICIANCY.

“Dang it,” Mia cursed, “Watchman’s memory core is still degrading.”

WARNING. POWER USAGE IS HOLDING BUT MEMORY CORE IS NOW REDUCED TO 29%. CONTINUAL USAGE OF WATCHMAN WILL REDUCE MEMORY CORE.

“We haven’t got much time left,” the young woman sighed, “Whatever we need to do with him, we need to do it now.”
