Part 228: The Battle

Jack fired at every soldier he could see. The thought of taking life repulsed him beyond measure. He was trained and practically raised to save lives. As he fired his weapon, he tried to focus on that thought; saving lives. The lives of Kate, Locke, Hurley, Ana-Lucia, Tony, Marita and the rest. The doctor could only think about what would happen if he failed.

Kate then fired her gun, killing a soldier instantly with a bullet to the head. Her gun then erupted back, locking on the breech. “I’M OUT!” she said, pulling the clip out.

“GET BEHIND ME!” Ana-Lucia screamed back, firing her rifle.

Jack fired again, and then he was empty. He quickly slid the clip out and pulled out his second one, loading it fast. Once he reloaded, he then looked to his right, seeing a soldier come out from behind a tree. What gave him great pause was the soldier was carrying what appeared to be a M-60. Jack almost laughed over recognizing one from the Rambo movies. The soldier gritted his teeth as he aimed the weapon at them.

Then screamed when a shotgun blast opened up his back.

Jack blinked in amazement over the fact that the redneck has just saved his life. Sawyer quickly handed off his shotgun to Lance, he quickly picked up the large weapon. The southern man cocked it back and then began to fire on the soldiers. He grunted feeling the kickback dig into his wounded soldier. Natasha, Jared and Chuck joined Jack and the others as they were holding off the soldiers. “WHO ARE THEY?” Ana-Lucia screamed.

“More survivors, Ana,” Jack fired his gun, “The man with the M-60 is Sawyer, that is Natasha, Jared, Chuck and Lance.”

“Why the hell are ya’ll still here?” Sawyer grunted, firing the weapon, feeling the vibration make his elbow ache.

“Hurley past out,” Kate screamed.

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME??” the redneck screamed in disbelief.

“If we leave, he’ll be easy pickings, Sawyer and we are not leaving him!” Jack fired again.

“Oh, great,” he said, kneeling and quickly mounting the gun, “We’re all going to get killed cause Lardo can’t take the heat.”

On the other side of the compound, Jenny flew into the air, making her foot smack directly into a soldier’s saw. The man flung his head back, sending blood and teeth into the air. Raven was right back her side; slamming his nunchuk’s into every opponent that came near him. The masked man then flipped twice, dropping kicking one soldier and then another in one fluid, graceful motion. Jenny then ran toward him and held out her hand. He quickly grabbed her and flung up her, drop kicking one man and then another. The teenager martial artist felt a little giddy. She never could have dreamed of a better fighting partner.

Their whole point for taking on the soldiers was to buy time for Micheal and the others to locate Walt. They had already searched three cabins and were about to search their fourth. “WALT!” Micheal screamed.

“WALT!” Yolanda replied, sticking her head through another door.

“DAD!!” Walt screamed, muffled through a door.

Micheal quickly ran toward the door and slammed his elbow into it. It quickly collapsed into splitters as he felt through. The black man then turned around and immediately felt his son grab him. The father embraced the son, in a long lost feeling. “They said you were dead.” The little boy cried.

“Naw, you know it’ll take a lot more than a bomb and ocean to wipe out your old man, huh?” he laughed, hugging his son.

Yolanda then burst into the doorway. “Walt?” she gasped.

Walt looked up at her, smiling. He then got up and ran to her; embracing her. “MOMMY!” he cried.

Yolanda was a little taken back by him calling her that. Nevertheless, she was happy he was alive. Micheal quickly grabbed his gun and then shoved them both out. “JIN, SUN!” he screamed, “WE FOUND HIM!”

The Korean couple then ran toward them. As they waited for their friends to join them, a bullet ricocheted off the cabin door, making Yolanda grunt in pain. Micheal then assumed she was shot and turned to see a soldier, baring down on them. He quickly fired the gun, taking down the approaching enemy. The black man turned to Yolanda who held her hand, blood seeping out of the open wound. “Ow,” she grunted.

“Be thankful, it wasn’t your chest or something,” Micheal said.

“We should go now,” Sun repeated.
”JENNY, WE ARE LEAVING!” Micheal screamed as they ran into the woods.
“GO!” she replied, “WE’LL HOLD THEM OFF!!”

Back at the other side of the outpost, Locke continued to slap Hurley in some vain attempt to wake him up. Marita and Tony had been working their way toward the others cabins, looking for a way out. The Latina grabbed his hand and guided him toward another cabin, looking for any way they can lead the others out. Back at the front of the bunker, the main core of the people were firing at anything they saw. Natasha was then out. Jared then quickly handed her a clip and the moment he did, his neck exploded. “OH MY GOD!” she screamed as the blood splashed on her face.

Jack grabbed the man and quickly brought him down. He gagged and coughed, trying to hold the blood in. The doctor tried to keep pressure on it but it wasn’t working. Before they knew it, Lance got shot, as the bullet bounced from the shotgun into his chest. Sawyer just grunted and kept firing. Jack looked up to see more soldiers baring down on them. They were about to be overrun in a matter of seconds and he honestly didn’t know how they would get out of this.

The answer came in the form of a nearby cabin exploding.

The soldiers and the group were thrown back by the shockwave. Locke jolted as a large piece of debris stabbed the wall three feet above him like a dart on a dartboard. A hail of black smoke and fire shot up to the heavens. The group slowly raised up, wondering what had just happened. Then one soldier grabbed his weapon, trying to get up and continue to fire. He was stopped cold by an arrow piercing his jugular.

Seth looked across the outpost at the remains of the explosions. Then he saw his friend John running through the smoke, already pulling an arrow out from his quiver and firing it at a soldier. The arrow punctured the man’s skull, pinning him against the large tree. John quickly pulled out another arrow and fired, hitting another man. “What a dynamic entrance!” Seth laughed.

Marita looked into the distance. John fired an arrow at a man and slammed it into the man’s mouth. He fired again, hitting a man in the knee. By the time, he leaned up, John planted another arrow in his chest. “It’s John!” the Latina giggled, “He’s taking them all out with arrows!”

Tony leaned his head back against the wall. “You go, John,” he sighed.

John fired arrow after arrow. He over heard some soldier screaming for someone to stop him but he knew he couldn’t be stopped. For every arrow he flung, he did it for Mia, Tony, Marita, Jack and all the other survivors. He fought for them and their survival. He wanted to get off this island and to insure that would happen, he had to stop the Liberation. Tony once told him that he suspected their would be a moment when they would need John the most. The archer knew that moment had arrived.

Sawyer felt like he was in the middle of a war and he was on the winning side. He wanted to HOOP and HOLLER and keep firing. Then he turned as he heard a loud scream like an animal. A large albino man kept ran toward them, flaying his arms about. The redneck turned his M-60 and immediately open fire on the large man. The albino screamed as the bullets rattled his chest but yet he still kept coming. Kate then saw what was happening and started to fire. Jack then helped out by firing too. Bullet after bullet smacked the man in the chest but he still ran toward them. Then two arrows flung through the air and slammed into both his knees. He screamed as he collapsed and the three friend continue to fire. When two bullets finally smacked his head, the large man collapsed. Jack gasped for air. Kate was nearly going to puke over what they had to do. “God, Bless! What is that?” Sawyer grunted.

“It’s Brooklyn,” Ana-Lucia sighed.

“They call him that cause that is where he’s from or that is how big he is?” the redneck replied.

“How do you know it’s Brooklyn?” asked Jack.

“Texas is uglier.” She mentioned.

The remaining soldiers had closed their offensive and held their position beside a large tree. John kept firing trying to pin them down. Arrow after arrow impeded in the tree to force them out. Then a shotgun blast struck John ripping into his quiver. He grunted as he fell down hard, a few arrows spilling everywhere. He turned to see the soldier named Titus pointing a shotgun at him. The sniveling man smirked as he pulled the trigger.

CLICK!

He gasped over the fact that his gun was empty. John then jolted and made a move for him. Titus turned and ran off into the jungle, running as fast as he could. The archer remembered how the thin soldier treated Mia before she was about to be hung. At that moment, he would love nothing more than to take a piece out for him for it.

Sayid, McKay, Hal and Sullivan made their way toward the outpost. Once they saw where their friends were, they quickly joined them. “Jack!” McKay screamed,” Where is John and Tony?”

“I don’t know!” He said, getting up from the dead body of Jared and firing on whoever he could.

Marita and Tony scooted toward the far cabin at the edge of the compound. The Latina looked around and noticed the way was clear. “I think this is it, Tony.” She whispered.

“Okay,” the blind doctor grunted, “Then if this is the route we take, we run back and help Locke drag Hurley out of here.”

“Sounds like a plan.” She replied, squeezing his arm.

“Now, remember keep your head low and lead the way.”

“I will.”

“On three. One, two-“

Marita and Tony were then tackled from behind. They quickly were separated. Tony tried to get up but someone landed on him from behind. He then felt a set of strong ripped arms wrap around his neck. The blind doctor gritted as his unseen enemy was attempt to break his neck. “I KILL YOU NOW!!!” Cedric screamed at the top of his lungs.

The Colonel held up his .45 pistol, looking at the carnage before him. His soldiers were mostly dead, and the others dying. The civilians had taken them by surprise with the explosion and they had gotten the advantage. They had gotten the better of them, the Colonel had to admit it. He then felt Cassandra grab him from behind. “Colonel, what do we do?” she asked in a panic.

“Go get Mia,” he whispered, as he closed his eyes, “I will deal with this.”

“How?”

“By calling in reinforcements.”

Seth then got ready to run toward his friends. He knew they would have a better chance go fending them off if they held up in one spot. “Okay, we’re going to make a run for their position,” Seth told Mandy and Alexander, “You follow me.”

“Okay,” she gritted her teeth.

Seth then began to fire his pistol and run toward his friends with Mandy holding his hand. Alexander began to run after them. Jack saw what they were doing and then immediately began to lay down cover fire for them. He stopped when he heard a low rumble. The soldiers were thrown by the rumble beneath them as well. Then a geyser of dirt shot up from the ground nearest the soldiers. Everybody began to scream as the ground opened up to a massive hole.

Underneath the ground had what appeared to be a missile silo opening. Triangle metal ramps connected to covert the silo and where at that moment lowering. Seth quickly grabbed for the nearest chunk of soil he could find. Mandy screamed as she held onto his hand. Alexander managed to make a grab for the wall and hang out. Sawyer buckled under the ground and began to fall, grabbing onto some vines hanging out of the ground. He grunted as he in order to do that, he had to drop the M-60. McKay immediately snatched his hand, pulling him up.

Across the way, the soldiers were clinging onto the ridge for dear life. Several of them fell down the pit screaming. Seth grunted as he held on with one hand and then held onto Mandy with the other. “SETH!!!” she screamed, “OH MY GOD!!!”

“MANDY, I GOT YOU!!” he screamed back.

Kate scrambled to get up with Jack’s help. Once she made it, Jack got up and ran to go help Seth. McKay was hot on his heels and Alexander met them half way. Seth grunted as the ground started to slip. Mandy screamed even more loudly as they jolted down. Alexander then reached down toward him, trying to get his hand. Then the ground rumbled again. Mandy looked down and screamed, “WHAT IS THAT???”

Seth looked down and heard a loud roaring sound, almost like a train. He started in horror as a large metal object with bright eyes was running up the shaft. It’s metal and gear churning could be heard by all

Mia grabbed the console as the room shook around her. A few specs of dust drifted from the ceiling. She looked around and saw on the monitor to her left that there was a giant gabbing hole in the center of the compound. “Watchman, “ she typed, “Identify tremor in the ground.”

SECURITY SYSTEM HOLD HAS BEEN OPENED TO RELEASE SECURITY SYSTEM UNIT.

“Why would you do that?” she quickly typed.

WATCHMAN DID NOT OPEN HOLD SILO. SILO WAS OPENED AS A SAFTEY FEATURE TO ALLOW SECURITY SYSTEM ACCESS TO THE SURFACE.

Mia wiped her forehead. She then typed, “Why is the security system coming to the surface?”

UNIT WAS ORDERED TOO.

“BY WHO?” she screamed and then typed in what she said.

ELETROMAGNETIC PATTERN # 3

Mia quickly looked at her pad and saw the name behind the name of electromagnetic pattern # 3. “Fender.” She whispered.

WARNING. MECHA HAS REACHED THE SURFACE. WATCHMAN IS NOT IN CONTROL OF SAID UNIT.

Mia then looked toward the monitor to see the cords starting to fly from the pit.
