Part 199: Intros all Around

Ana-Lucia embraced Jack with a deep sigh. Kate looked on in confusion; how is it she knew him? The Latina stepped back and smiled at him. “I’m so glad you are alive, Jack.” She smiled, wiping away a tear.

“I am glad to see you too,” he said, embarrassed, “I am sorry but . .I forgot your name,”

“Ana-Lucia,” she smiled.

“Ana-Lucia.” Jack repeated.

“I don’t blame you. Our meeting at the bar lasted what . .four minutes?”

“Seems like a lifetime ago.” Jack smiled.

“Look I hate to interrupt this romantic interlude, “ Kate burst in, “But who the hell are you?”

“Who the hell are you?” she retorted.

“Ana, who are you talking too?” someone called from behind the wall.

Ana-Lucia let Kate’s comment slide. She motioned for them to follow her. The group stayed together as they followed the Latina on the short path. Within seconds they were in a larger room, and found themselves with seven more people. They were all dressed in various clothing that was torn. Most of them were slightly dirty, and judging by their expressions, they were just waking up. The fact that they were seeing more people looking like them, didn’t help their morale. “Oh, my god, “ one of the young women gasped, “Are you . . .are you from the crash too?”

“Yes, “ Jack said with reluctance.

“Where were you people this whole damn time?” the only man in the group of women asked.

“Clay, we should save the questions for later,” Ana-Lucia held up her hands, “Perhaps it would be better if we got to know each other first.”

“Yeah, “ John sighed, “Introductions should always been done first.”

Jack then proceeded to tell the small group who he was, followed by John and Mia. Marita explained that she was one of the surviving stewardesses on the plane. Hurley explained to them who he was and already told them he had lost some weight. Kate went ahead and told them she was hiking through Australian and coming home to visit her mom. Mia then patted her gently on the shoulder after she said it. Kate smiled; as it was a subtle way of telling her that they didn’t mind that she didn’t tell them she was a fugitive from the Law.

Now it was their turn.

“My name is Ana-Lucia,” the Latina whispered, “I was in the tail section of the plane when it broke off. How I survived with these people I don’t know. I was on my way home to be with my family.”

An older blonde woman stood up. “ My name is Libby,” she whispered, “I am a therapist. I was vacationing in Australia and ready to head home.”

“Hello, I am Jillian but you can call me Jilly.” The woman smiled, waving to them.

Jack immediately pointed at her, “The tone of your voice . . .you’re deaf?”

“Yes, but I can read lips,” she said, “As long as you look at me when you are talking with me, I will understand you.”

“Thank you. We will remember that.” John shook her hand.

A young girl then stood up, brushing off the dirt on her arms. “My name is Kellye Shroeder, army specialist.” She said.

“You . .are in the army?” Marita blinked.

“Didn’t get a chance to do any good yet, I’ve only been in it two years.” She shrugged.

“Uh, hello.” A brunette girl waved her hand, “My name is Karleigh Andrews. I live in New York, where my father owns a very nice musical equipment company . .not that it . . .matters now.”

“Thanks for telling that completely useless piece of information.” The man moaned.

“SHUT UP, CLAY!” Karleigh screamed at him.

“I take it your name is Clay?” Mia pointed.

“Clayton Kane, owner of the Kane Corp. We specialize in merges and purchases. I am a Virgo, I like lounging in my swimming pool back in California, and Long Island Ice Teas.” He smirked, “What else you want to know, sweet cheeks?”

“You sound like a big shot?” John stepped in front of Mia,” How did someone like you wind up the tail section?”

“I was planning on spending my entire two weeks, deep sea fishing off of Sydney,” he pinched the bridge of his nose, “Until my man Jyles back home told me a company was going up for sale and I had to get back home to secure it’s purchase. All the first class seats were full so I had no choice but to buy a ticket in coach. Satisfied?”

“So far,” the archer crossed his arms.

“What is your name?” Marita asked the girl sitting down.

The young girl looked up. It was easy to spot the scar on her forehead but no one had yet asked her why she had it. She gently looked away. Kellye kneeled back down, putting her arm around the girl. “It’s all right, Joe,” she smiled, “These people are in the same boat as us. You can trust them.”

She smiled, always glad that Kellye was on her side. She turned back to them and replied, “My name is Joscelyn Moore. I was in Australia to . . .find someone but I had to return home. My sister is in California and I was on my way back to live with her.”

“Joscelyn,” John smiled, “Pretty name.”

She just smiled at the friendly statement from the archer. John could tell she was shy and probably worried about the scar on her forehead. He didn’t want her to feel uneasy. The archer then turned to the only other woman to reveal herself. The redheaded woman was in the corner weeping. Ana-Lucia sighed, shaking her forehead. “She gets like that sometimes,” she whispered, “Seeing you guys probably didn’t help matters.”

“What do you mean?” asked Hurley.

“She was in the tail section by mistake, she was actually sitting near the front,” the small woman told them,” She had run back to get her son. Then when she couldn’t find them, the plane broke off, taking her with us.”

“Couldn’t find . . .her son?” John raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah, she lost her son and her husband in the crash,”

“Oh . .my . .God.” Marita covering her mouth, knowing the story full well because a certain young boy had told it to her.

John pushed past them and walked over to the weeping woman. He kneeled down to look at her. From the description he was given, it matched her to a T. “Why?” she wept, “Why couldn’t my husband survive? Why . .why did he have to take my son?”

John gently touched her shoulder. “Barbara Trascal?” he asked.

The red-headed woman looked at him abruptly. The look in her eyes could tell she had never met John in her life and yet, he knew her name. Ana-Lucia immediately walked over to him and nudged him on the shoulder. “How do you know her name?” she asked.

John looked at her and then back to the older woman. “I am so sorry, Barbara,” he sighed, “Your husband is indeed dead . . but Eddie is alive.”

“My . ..my . . my . ..Eddie is . . .” she was getting hysterical.

John motioned for Marita to come over. “This woman here took care of your son for the past 40 days,” he said.

Barbara then lurched up and quickly cut the distance between them. The older woman grabbed the stewardess by her arms, looking at her through teary eyes. “My Eddie,” she gasped, “He’s all right?”

“He’s fine, ma’am,” Marita smiled, “He’s helped us gather food. He’s drinking water when we told him to. He’s a very brave, very well mannered boy. And I know he misses you.”

“Oh, THANK YOU!” Barbara embraced her, “Thank you!”

“The blind man they took away,” John pointed, “He’s looked at Eddie like a son. In fact, had it not been for him, Eddie would have drowned.”

“Drowned?” the woman was alarmed.

“He was on the beach when we crashed. Tony found him and gave him CPR. Eddie kinda bonded with him ever since. Hell, we all did.” John smiled.

Barbara cried, closing her eyes and holding her mouth. Jilly came over smiling and holding onto the older woman. They could all tell they were tears of joy. The older red-headed woman cried for a few seconds more and collected herself. “My husband . .Edward . . . .he is . .dead?” she asked.

“Yes, this woman stumbled across him in a lake,” John pointed to Kate,” At Eddie’s request, we went back and pulled him out, giving him a funeral pyre, due to the advance decomposition.”

Barbara shook her hand, understanding what he was saying.

“Eddie did take his father’s watch, so he’ll always have something to remember him by.” The archer said assuring.

“That’s . .that’s good,” the older woman sniffed, “That watch was a gift from Eddie’s grandfather . ..it’s fitting that he have it.”

“Look I hate to break this up, but I did come across an interesting piece of info in this Hallmark moment, “ Clay grunted, “Barbara, you said you couldn’t find your son?”

“Yes, what is your point, Clay?” the older woman said.

“Then where did he go?” the millionaire demanded, “How did he survive? What section was he in?”

“He was in the tail section, same as us,” John looked at him.

“WE . . .were in the tail section,” Clay was getting angry over the lack of answers, “Where the hell were you people this whole time?”

“We landed on beach.” The archer then paused, “But you guys . ..were not with us.”

“The tail section must have broke off in multiple pieces, “ Ana-Lucia said, “There was only the chunk of the plane we were in, floating in the surf.”

“The section we were in was plummeting into the water, “ John continued, “And another piece had landed on the beach.”

Clay pointed to Jack, “Were you in the tail section?”

“No, we were in the middle section. The first half of the plane landed in the jungle mountains, and the pilot survived. Albeit . . .briefly.”

“He died from his wounds, Jack?” Ana-Lucia asked.

“Not . . .exactly,” Kate sighed.

“How . . .many of there are you?” Barbara asked.

“Near 40 people with me,” the doctor pointed out, “And another 19 people in John’s section.”

“Sixty people,” Karleigh held her hands over her mouth.

“Ana . . .where have you and your people been?” Kate asked her.

Before the Latina could answer, they were all taken back by someone screaming. John looked into the distance, and Marita nearly fainted. They recognized the screaming sound cause they heard him once when he healed his eye would.

Tony screamed in the distance as they stood in the bunker, listening in horror.
