Pat 168: Confront

“JENNY, WAIT!” Kate said, catching up to her in the jungle.

“What the hell do you want?” Jenny turned, stopping at a grouping of palm trees.

“What happened between you and Jack?” she asked.

“None of your business, THAT’S what happened.” The teenager retorted.

“What’s the matter? Too afraid to talk about it?” the brunette stopped in front of her.

“Oh, what is this? Some kind of reverse-psychology bullcrap?” Jenny demanded, “Trying to make me feel sorry for Jack cause he lost Boone? He already got my sympathy for the death of his father, he ain’t gonna get it again!”

“His . . .father?” Kate blinked.

“Oh, let me guess, Jack didn’t tell you,” Jenny scoffed, “He’s good at keeping secrets.”

“No matter what you think of him, you got to see he is hurting, Jenny!” Kate demanded, “If you could somehow repair this rift between you two . . “

“Yeah, the burden of leadership. You should’ve chosen better, Kate.”

“Stop it! Jack is a good man!”

“Jack is only good at never letting go,” Jenny paused, as a tear fell from her eye, “I just wish . . . .I just wished he showed the dame devotion to my sister that he did to some of his patients.”

Kate shifted her head slightly, looking at the young girl. Was Jenny talking to her or someone else; a distant ghost in her past? “Sarah . .was strong . .Jack made her stronger and then . .he shattered her . . .” Jenny whispered.

“Jenny, you should heal this wound between you and Jack. It’ll only make things worse if it continues on like this.”

The teenager started to walk away, “I am done talking to you.”

“Jenny, please, don’t go . . “

“Kate, I swear to God, if you say one more word, I WILL SNATCH THE LIFE RIGHT OUTTA YOU!!!” Jenny screamed

“I’m not afraid of you, Jenny.”

The young teenager then screamed and then plunged her fist into a nearby rock on the ground. The basketball sized-stone shattered under the power of her strike. Kate gasped at the sight of the young girl’s power. Jenny slowly and deeply breathed through her teeth, holding her position with her fist stuck an inch into the dirt. Then she stood up, and looked at Kate holding her hand up. There was not a trace of blood on her knuckles. “You should be afraid of me.” She warned.

Kate didn’t move. She didn’t show any fear but she still didn’t move. Jenny shook her hand and then slowly turned around, leaving the brunette standing by herself in the trees.

Jenny walked a few more feet, finding herself alone again. She walked a few feet and then collapsed. Her chest hurt; the back of her head hurt. She hated him, oh, how she hated him. He had no right to do what he did to Sarah; no right whatsoever. “Sarah,” she wept.

Let it go, Jenny,” Brendon whispered.

“I CAN’T!! NOT AFTER WHAT HE DID!!!” Jenny screamed at the top of her lungs.

This pain you have carried for some time. It will only cause you to burn even further,” the Asian whispered to her.

Jenny closed her eyes and covered her ears. “Can’t hear you, LALALALALA!!!”

“Stop it, Jenny. You know the pain I speak of.”

“NO! Don’t say it, Brendon! DON’T YOU DARE SAY IT!!!”

You once told me you hate weakness. That is why you studied Jeet Kune Do. So you would never be weak again.”

“Don’t say it, please . . .” she whimpered

Sarah called you, begging you to come home. The desperation of her voice brought back painful memories, didn’t it?”

“No,”

You hate weakness and Jack . made Sarah weak.”

“NOOOOO!!!” Jenny collapsed on all fours, crying.

You can berate him all you want but in the end, you know the truth. You don’t hate him. You hate what he did.”

“He should’ve stayed . . .stayed with her . . .she was happy . . .why . . .why did he . .”

People change, Jenny. You can’t stop it, anymore than Jack or Sarah could. This is the pain you must let go.” Brendon whispered.

“Don’t . . .don’t ,. . don’t take away my hate, Brendon! It’s all I got left! I don’t even . . have Sarah .. .”

You have more than that, Jenny.” The Asian whispered.

“What do you mean?”

Look around and see.”

“JENNY!!!” Kristy screamed, as she ran toward her friend.

The teenager turned and saw Kristy with Martin running toward her. They quickly stopped and helped her up. “We heard you crying.” The model said, “Are you all right?”

“I’m fine, “ she wiped her tears.

“Girl, we can’t leave you alone for a moment,” Martin chuckled, “Last time, we came across you, you were chopping wood with your bare hands.”

“I’m fine, really guys. I just . . .needed to sort some things out.” Jenny smiled, putting her arms around both Kristy and Martin’s shoulders.

“Well, come back to the beach with us. You have to got see what Sawyer was doing,” Kristy laughed.

“Why? What did that redneck do now?”

“Apparently, his deep southern voice is the only thing that calms down Claire’s baby.”

“Yeah, “Martin laughed, “Charlie shanghaied the poor guy to read to the baby till it goes to sleep.”

“Oh, my god, “Jenny laughed, “This I do have to see.”

As the three friends walked along, Kristy looked back to her young teenaged friend. “Are you sure you are all right?” she asked.

“Being with you guys . ..I am better than all right,” she smiled.

“Who were you talking to, Jenny?” Martin asked, “It sounded like you were crying to someone.”

“Don’t be silly, Marty,” the blonde teen replied, “Who would I be talking to way out here?”

-------------------------------------------------,

Mia had finally started to feel better. Shanna had stayed with her most of the morning. Seth had arrived and decided to hang out with them. He wanted to find out what happened to Boone for Mandy’s sake but he decided to wait and let Mia tell him when she was ready. The Lakota girl looked around and then up the beach. John was with McKay and they were holding together another railing in the raft. “I hope John didn’t hurt Jack too bad.” The Lakota girl whispered.

“The Doc is still alive, isn’t he?” Seth chuckled,

“Jack was just upset. He wasn’t thinking.”

“Don’t dwell on it, Mia,” Shanna said, putting a hand on her knee, “I am sure by tomorrow, Jack and John will forget it ever happened.”

“Yeah, you are probably right.” Mia smiled.

Shanna then felt a presence behind her. She turned around and saw Sayid there with his backpack. He didn’t acknowledge Shanna; he was looking at Mia. “Are you all right?” he asked.

“Yes. Thank you for asking.”

“I am sure Jack feels terrible about what he has done.” The Iraqi said, “Give him time. I assure you he will see that he overreacted.”

“John kinda did too . . but he was just defending me.” The Lakota girl sighed.

“I am sure by tomorrow, no one will even remember it happened.”

“Hey, that is what I said, “Shanna giggled.

“Then you have insight beyond your years, my red-headed friend,” Sayid kneeled down.

Shanna smiled, as the Iraqi made her blush. Mia was feeling better and she was smart enough to know Sayid wasn’t just checking on them. The backpack was the clear indicator that he was going somewhere. “Is there anything I can do for you, Sayid?” Mia asked.

“The plane's radio? Was Boone able to pick up a signal?” Sayid asked.

“Yeah, he was. I wasn’t sure what he heard but he heard something.”

“Any idea what?”

“I was too busy trying to get to him. I didn’t stop to listen.”

“But it was working?”

“Yeah but I . . .I don’t think it would be working after the crash.”

“Some of its parts might work in the transmitter I'm building for the raft. If you'd be willing to take me?”

Mia paused for a few seconds and then shook her head. “Yeah, no problem,” she sighed, getting up, “I’ll take you too it.”

“Mia, are you sure?” Shanna asked.

“Yeah, I am feeling better. I could stand to use some air anyway.” Mia said, putting on her backpack.

“Well, then I will go with you.” The redhead stood up.

“Yeah, me too,” Seth sprung to his feet.

“Wait, guys . .that’s not necessary,” the Lakota girl pleaded.

“We know, but I need some air too,” Seth smirked.

“Yeah, me too. Some air,” Shanna replied as well.

Sayid chuckled to himself. Seth shoved his sword into his backpack, looking at the Middle Easterner. “Something funny, sir?” he asked.

“Not at all. Ironic, really,” Sayid said, touching Mia on the arm, “It would seem John is not the only one eager to protect you.”

Mia giggled at his statement. She the motioned for them to follow her to the plane. As they past their encampment , she told Tony to tell John and Locke that she was leading Sayid to the plane. She also mentioned to him to tell John not to worry.

She had Seth and Shanna with her and he would know she would be safe with them.
