Part 159: Trauma 3

Back at the cave, the trio did their best to continue to save the young man. Hurley draped some of the mesh against poles prompt against the roof of the cave. Tony was almost in the chest area, due to his vision problem. He continued to sew up Boone as fast as he could. “Mandy,” he whispered, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry . . .”

“Shh, Boone, try not to talk.” Tony whispered to him.

“He needs blood.” Jack whispered.

Sun blinked, “What?”

“Jack’s correct, he needs a blood transfusion,” the blind doctor continued to sew, “How we’re going to do it I don’t know.”

“I'll figure it out. After I set the leg.”

“Jack, take a break,” Sun said, moving to take his position.

“I’m fine,” he assured her.

Tony then leaned up, “Jack, take a break.”

Jack looked at the blind doctor with small spots of blood on his face. Even though he couldn’t see, he didn’t lose his cool for an instance. The other doctor shook his head, and walked away, allowing the Korean woman to take his place.

He walked a few feet, taking a deep breath. As he did, his friend Charlie arrived back into the caves. “How is he?” he asked.

“Don’t know yet.” Jack shook his head.

“How is Tony sewing him up?” the musician blinked, “I though he was blind!”

“He can barely see and he is helping, so I don’t care how he sews, Charlie.”

“What happened out there? Where is Locke? Do you think that-“

“I don’t know where Locke IS!” Jack retorted.

“What . .you mean, he just took off?”

“Yes, he did. Him and Mia. It makes no sense.”

“Where is Shannon?” Charlie asked.

“I don’t know,” Jack repeated yet again.

“Well, she’s his sister, don’t you think-“

“CHARLIE, I JUST TOLD YOU I DON’T KNOW!!!” Jack screamed

The doctor barely had enough time to react when he saw Mandy storm into the cave. He quickly grabbed her, The moment she saw Boone in such a state, she screamed at the top of her lungs. Taylor and McKay arrived, as Jack forced her to the side. Tony looked up briefly, and then went back to finishing his sewing.

Jack sat Mandy down and kneeled in front of her. She was in shock, crying severely. Taylor quickly came over and embraced her, keeping her calm. “Mandy, please, I need you to calm down,” Jack ordered.

“Wha . ..wha . .what happened?” she stuttered through her tears.

“That doesn’t matter right now. What matters is that I have to help Boone, and I can’t do that if you are screaming. So please, you can stay but do you best to be calm, okay?”

“Yeah . .yeah,” she said, sniffing.

Jack then got up and went back to the young man. Boone was still groaning as they helped him. The doctor started to check the leg. Tony quickly wiped the blood from his eyes and coughed, getting his breath. “Tony, I am ready to set the leg.” Jack said.

Tony walked over and braced down his forearms onto Boone’s shoulders. Sun came over and held up a stick, wrapping in some kind of plant. “Give him this,” she said.

“What is that?” Tony asked.

“It’s too late for home remedies, “ Jack muttered.

“It’s not a home remedy,” Sun said, placing the stick into his teeth,” Its for the pain.”

Tony shook his head. Jack pointed toward the shoulders. Sun helped Tony hold down the man. The other doctor grunted and then yanked hard on Boone’s leg to set the bone. The young man then screamed bloody murder at the pain. Mandy gulped and tried not to scream. Taylor held onto her, rocking her from side to side. McKay just started at the shadows beyond the mesh, praying they could save him. Hurley squinted his eyes, from Boone’s continued screaming. He slowly covered his ears.

------------------------------------------------,

“Claire, we need to get you back to camp.” Kate told the pregnant woman.

“I said, I was fine,” Claire grunted, “I just need to catch my breath.”

“It's not fine. You're having your baby.”

“No, I'm not, okay. It's just gas pains, it's fine!”

“You're having contractions, Claire!” Kate tried to reason with her.

“No! I'm bloody not!” the Australian woman yelled at her, “Can you just leave me alone?”

“C'mon, I've got to get you to Jack. Please try to stand. Please.” The brunette begged.

Claire grunted as she tried to move. “Look . .I . . .I can’t!”

“HELP!!!” Kate screamed, “PLEASE HELP!!!!”

Back on the beach, Jin continued to work on the raft. Then he paused when he heard screaming. He wasn’t versed in English but the word “Help” was a universal meaning. He quickly then dropped his axe and ran in the jungle. Pausing to get his bareings, he heard the screaming again. Within moment he ran and then stumbled onto Kate and Claire. He immediately said something in Korean. Kate didn’t bother to want to translate. “JIN!” she said, “You got to get Jack and bring him here!”

Jin something else in Korean.

“Jack, “ she said, shoving the backpack in his arms, “Get that to Jack, and bring him here. Jack, DOCTOR, understand?”

“Jack, “ he said, “Doctor.”

“Yes, please, hurry,” Kate sighed.

Jin then held onto the backpack like a football and then ran onto into the jungle, going as fast as he can for the caves. Kate leaned around and looked to make sure he was going as hard as he could and he was. She hoped that when this was over, she would teach Jin the meaning of Thank You. Claire grabbed her friend’s arm. “Don’t leave me, please,” she said.

“I won’t, honey,” Kate assured her, “Jack will be along shortly.”

-------------------------------------------,

Jack was throwing everything around the caves. He was checking for item after item. Mandy just got more upset looking at him. McKay stood up, anxious to get any word from Jack but he knew it would not be a good idea to interrupt him. Jack looked back at Boone was still in and out of consciousness. “Ask him again,” he ordered.

“He’s in shock, Jack,” Sun grunted.

“That’s why we have to keep asking him.” Tony leaned forward, “Boone? Boone, can you hear me? We need to know what your blood type is.”

Boone just continued to having whispered breathing. Sun turned and looked at Jack, who was trying to make a needle out of bamboo. He poked it finger but all it was doing was causing splinters and not even piercing the skin. “Want a smaller piece?” she asked.

“Veins are like a wet noodle,” Jack explained,” First you have to find one, then you have to have a hollow needle sharp enough to actually pierce it. I've got bamboo. None of it actually even matters because I don't know his blood type, not to mention that his injuries-“

“A negative.” Mandy whispered.

Jack, Sun and McKay turned to the crying woman. Taylor looked at her. Mandy gently wiped her nose. “Boone’s blood type . . .is A Negative.” She wept.

“Mandy, are you sure?” Jack asked.

“We talked . . .about everything . . .” she cried.

Jack grabbed McKay,” McKay, I need you to find Charlie. Go to every body that you can find. I need an A Negative in here, NOW.”

McKay quickly pat him on the arm and ran out of the cave to do as he suggested. Jack quickly screamed, “AND FIND HIS SISTER,SHANNON!!”

“Shannon,” Boone whispered.

“Boone, hang on, “ Tony ordered, “We got our friends looking for a blood donor for you.”

“Shannon . . .complained . . .about . .Mandy . . on the . . plane . . .” he said in a strained voice.

Mandy looked up. Hearing her boyfriend wounded and speaking her name didn’t help her at all.
