Part 157: Trauma 1

Jack and Tony hoisted up Boone best they could. It wasn’t easy carrying him; it was like carrying a china doll that was broken and could shatter at any moment. Sun was helping and Kate kept the pressure on his leg. But the situation was going down hill very fast. “C'mon, out of the way.” Jack told the other survivors,” We need room. Steady.”

“Boone, can you hear me?” Kate demanded, “We got you! You are going to be okay!”

“What happened?” Hurley whispered.

“He fell off a cliff.” Kate answered.

“But . . .but he was with Locke?” the large man was confused.

“Tony, his leg!” Sun pointed.

The blind doctor held onto the man as they moved him, taking a quick moment to raise up his left hand and put it right to his eye. It was if his hand had been dipped in blood. “Jesus,” he whispered, “He’s bleeding too fast.”

“Keep him steady, damn it!” Jack said, covering the brunettes hands,” You've got to press harder than that, Kate!”

“I know, I am trying.” She whispered, trying also not to throw up.

“Okay, slow it down, gently now,” Jack said, as they finally laid him on the area where they could help him.

Tony backed off, quickly grabbing the nearest towel he could find and wiping the blood off his hand. He looked around at the area where they put him. “Sun, pair of scissors on the second drawer,” Jack pointed to the cabinets, “The . .the second drawer! SECOND DRAWER! Diapers in the first!”

The Korean woman quickly grabbed the items he want and brought them back over. Tony gently shoved a pillow behind Boone’s head. After Jack got he items, he pointed to his other friend. “Kate, Sun is going to switch places with you,” he ordered, “Sun, I need you to-“

“Yes, I understand,” she said, immediately pressing on the wound. Kate backed off to catch a breath.

Tony looked around again, knowing full well the germs that existed in the cave. “Jack, we got to create some sort of sterile environment here!” the blind doctor replied.

“Way ahead of you,” he snapped his fingers, then pointed, at Hurley, “Hurley! Grab me that first class seat from up there. Also, I need that mesh. We need to create some kind of sterile-“

Jack went wild-eyed at his friend. The large man’s face was white as a sheet and his knees were quivering. “HURELY, I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU FAINT . . .” he screamed.

“No . . no, I’m good . .mess . .first glass,” the large man turned around and whispered, “Oh . .Lord in Heaven.”

Jack then turned around and grabbed Kate by the arm. “Get to the beach.” He ordered, “Ransack Sawyer's stuff. I want his alcohol, rubbing, scotch, the lot of it.”

Then Boone started gasping, having trouble breathing. Tony paused it when he was doing, the moment he heard it. He quickly and gently felt of the young man’s rips, seeing which were damaged. The blind doctor then put his ear directly on the wounds of the chest, listening. “Tony, what’s happening?” Kate asked.

“HIS LUNG COLLAPSED!” Tony grunted, “Jack, it’s this one here!”

“I got it, I got it,” Jack then grabbed some tubing and a small metal spike.

Tony knew exactly what he was going to do. He quickly moved over to Boone’s head area. “Hang on, Boone, this will hurt but not as bad as you got now.” The blind doctor ordered.

Jack quickly jabbed the spike into the young’s man chest and he made some kind of gargling sound but no flinching of pain. “Good, Boone, that’s good, “Jack assured him, “Good job. Alright, a little bit of tube in that and you're going to be just fine.”

The doctor then noticed a little problem. Kate was still in the caves, not able to take her eyes off of the dying man. “KATE, WHAT ARE YOU STILL DOING HERE??” Jack screamed, “Alcohol, now! You want him to live, go to the beach, now!”

Kate finally moved. She quickly ran to the side and grabbed a backpack. Then within seconds, the jumped out the exit of the cave. Jack took a deep breath and then proceeded to blow into the tube poking into Boone’s chest. He was gasping for air, and trying to lurch up but Tony held him down. Hurley turned away, unable to look anymore.

Jack listened for the sound of Boone’s breathing. It was slowly starting to return to normal. The doctor caught his breath and then pulled the tube out. Tony handed him the medical tape. The doctor tried to keep from laughing at the hysteria of the situation. ”We don’t have enough medical tape.” He whispered.

“Don’t focus on that, Jack!” Tony ordered, “Seal as many wounds as you can!”

The moment Jack was done, he quickly migrated to the leg. He started to cut off the pants leg and then check the wound. “It hurts,” Boone whispered.

“It’s a closed fracture, but I think I can set it.” Jack observed it.

“His chest, his wounds,” Sun started, “Can you . . sew him?”

“I’ll do that, you concentrate on the leg,” Tony said, reaching around and getting the medical kit.

“He's lost a lot of blood. I wonder how far Locke had to carry him.” The other doctor muttered.

“I’m gonna die,” Boone croaked, “Oh, god . ..Mandy . . “

“BOONE, LISTEN TO ME!” Jack yelled at him, “You are not going to die! I’m going to fix this. I am going to save you!”

“Mandy . . .Mandy . . Mandy, I’m sorry . .. “ the young man repeated over and over.

Tony gritted his teeth as he prepared to sew the man up.
