Part 163: The Omega and The Alpha
“Stop,” Boone whispered.
Everybody froze. Jack looked down at him. Mandy held onto McKay, as her lover moved slightly for the first time in many minutes. Taylor was at a massive lost of words. “Wait, don’t Jack . .” Boone coughed.
“I have to, if I don’t . . .” the doctor was starting to weep.
“I'm all messed up inside. You know it.”
“This is our best chance.”
“There is no chance. I mean . . look at me.” The lifeguard hissed.
“I am not letting you give up.” Jack pointed.
“I know you . . made a promise . . .I’m letting you off the hook . . .let me go, Jack.”
Jack slowly took his hand off the container. He dropped to his knees. The doctor felt like crying. Never in his life had he wanted to save someone so badly. Had they been at a hospital, he could have. “I’m sorry,” Jack sniffed.
“Don’t be.” Boone whispered.
“McKay . .let’s . .lets get him back to the table.” Jack mentioned.
The Australian wiped his tears and bent over to guide Boone back. They grunted as they shifted over back to the tent. Taylor held it open for them. They slowly and gently placed him down. McKay then walked away, and embracing Taylor. Jack stayed by his side. “I’m sorry, Boone.” He whispered.
“Mandy?” he whispered.
“I’m here, baby,” she said, moving toward his head. She gently stroked his hair. “I’m here. I’m not leaving you.”
“Kiss me.” He whispered.
Mandy slowly let her lips caress his. Boone wanted to hold her but he had no strength left. The young blonde’s tears felt onto his face as she pulled away. “Don’t cry . .” he whispered, “Remember . .I’ll . .always love you . . “
“I love you too,” she wept.
“Don’t be alone . . don’t . .be alone.”
“Boone, what does that mean?” she blinked.
“Mandy . ..I’m sorry . . . “
“Oh, Boone, why did this have to happen?” She cried, rubbing his cheek, “It could have been wonderful for us. It could . . .it could have been magic.”
“It was.” He opened his eyes for her,” It . . was magic . . .every moment I was . .with you. . “
“Boone, don’t talk. It’s okay,” she wept.
“Mandy . . tell . .tell Shannon . . .”
Mandy leaned in, “Boone, tell her what?”
The young man then closed his eyes. There was a last gasp of what remaining breath he had left. Jack gritted his teeth and checked the young man’s pulse. It was not beating anymore. Mandy didn’t have to ask; she knew. She collapsed onto his chest and started to wail her despair. McKay never cried much but he cried then. Seeing a good friend of his in such pain and not being able to do anything about it. Taylor wept into her boyfriend’s arms, feeling nothing but sadness for the woman she called best friend.
The only sound in the cave then was Mandy’s crying.

Claire screamed in agony. She never imagined childbirth like that. The pain was shooting through ever nerve in her body. “ARE WE THERE YET?” Tony screamed.
“Not yet, “ Kate gasped, “PUSH, CLAIRE!”
Claire screamed.
“That’s it! I can see the head!” The brunette laughed.
“Oh, my god, “ the Australian woman gagged.
“Don’t give up now, Claire, you are almost there!” Tony kept with her, “Keep pushing!”
Claire screamed again. Kate’s face was lighting up. “One more, Claire!” she told her, laughing.
The pregnant woman screamed and at that miraculous moment, she was pregnant no more. The baby came over. Kate quickly took the blade and cut the umbilical cord. “Clear the baby’s mouth, Kate,” Tony ordered.
Kate did as he said. The baby then started to cry. She slowly wrapped it up in the towel. Kate held the baby up, bringing brought to tears. “IT’S A BOY!” she laughed, “Claire, you have a boy!”
Kate hands the baby to Claire. The Australian woman proceeded to laugh and cry at the same time. Tony flung his head down, finally relaxing. “Thank, God,” he muttered.
The blonde woman pulled his head down and kissed him. “Thank you, Tony!” she laughed, “Thank you, Kate. You were wonderful.”
Charlie and Jin looked at the new born. The short musician was at a lost of words. The Korean man then extended his hand to Charlie in pride, almost as if he was the father. Then the English-man grabbed the other and embraced him; laughing like a school boy.
Tony slowly stood up, holding his back. The ache was there and he was thankful; it meant they had succeeded and the baby was safe. Kate walked over to him and gently touched him on the arm. Before the blind doctor could react, she embraced him, nearly falling into his arms. Tony chuckled, holding onto her. “Good job, Kate,” he laughed, “I hearby promote you to Field Nurse.”
“I couldn’t have done it with you, Tony” she said, kissing him on the cheek, “I never should have doubted you.”
“You weren’t the first. It’s okay.” He smiled.
Kate looked over to see Jin and Charlie next to the baby, as Claire cuddled him. The brunette then sighed, wiping her sweat soaked hair back. “We did good tonight, Tony.” She sighed.
“Yes,” Tony replied, “Yes, we did.”
Tony didn’t mention it to Kate but his thoughts went to Boone. They had done good tonight, there was no doubt. But did they do good enough?

Deep in the jungle, next to the Hatch sat Mia and Locke. Mia couldn’t stop crying. Locke was doing his best to maintain his composure but it was failing. He knew Boone was dead. He just knew it. The Lakota girl that sat beside him kept weeping. “It’s my fault,” she wept, “I wasn’t fast enough.”
“No, Mia,” Locke then took her into his arms, “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have sent him up there. I should have had the strength to do it myself.”
“Then you’d be dead.” Mia cried, “I don’t want to lose anybody else.”
Locke comforted her best he could. Mia wept into his arms. The whole feeling reminded her of when her grandmother died and her father comforted her by holding her. The whole episode made her remember how much she needed a father in her life. Locke was one of the few people on the island that understood her and what she wanted in regards to faith. The bald man believed in faith too but at the moment, he was starting to wonder if it was misplaced.
Tears began to fall from his eyes for the first time. He then leaned up his head and shouted toward the Heavens. “WHY DID YOU DO THIS?” he screamed.
Mia stopped crying and looked at him. Locke covered his face and screamed again. “WE DID EVERYTHING YOU ASKED US TO DO!!!” he cried, “WHY DID YOU DO THIS?”
Mia trembled, and then looked at the Hatch. Her sadness was replaced with Rage and realized, it was all because of the Hatch. Whatever was inside, was it worth another man’s life? At the moment, she didn’t believe so. She quickly grabbed a large branch and stood up, walking toward the Hatch. Locke watched her step on top of it and then began to band on it’s hull. “Mia, stop!” he said.
“IT’S THEIR FAULT!” she screamed, pounding the hull, “WE DID NOTHING WRONG! THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO KILL BOONE!!!”
Mia pounded the hull continuously, until a small light caught her attention. She gulped as she saw the glass panel of the Hatch light up, as if someone or something turned on a light inside it. She slowly felt to her knees, seeing if she could see inward. Locke slowly crawled over and joined her. Mia kept wiping the lit panel to see what she could see. The Lakota girl then coughed and nearly choked. She could only see blurry images.
But those images were moving .
