Part 308: Night Time is The Right Time

McKay continued to jot down the coordinates on the pad mounted on the console. He had tracked their movements based upon the nautical direction they came from. The whole point of it was to simply find their way back and rescue the others, whenever they got picked up. “McKay, are you done yet?” Taylor asked.

The bald man turned to his girlfriend resting in her sleeping bag on the floor of the bridge. Most of the people had to fit themselves in various spots around the boat. A few were outside but some stayed inside. The bridge area was big enough for two people, so McKay and Taylor took that. “Almost, honey,” he replied, “I want to make sure I get all the coordinates so I don’t forget later.”

“You’re such a smart man.” She whispered, half asleep.

“No, I am just thankful I know what I know. Fate has been kind to us and I don’t want to screw that up.”

“You won’t, now come to bed.”

McKay clicked his pen shut and set it to the side of the pad. He then turned around and got into the sleeping bag with his love. Taylor pushed her blonde hair aside and then used his chest as a pillow. The Australian situated his own pillow and got ready to sleep.

Down below in the cabin, it was filled to near capacity. Sawyer had pulled back his recliner, pushing his feet upward; turning it into a perfect sleeping area. Jin and Sun rested on the floor near him. In the middle was Mandy and Alexander, however the wild boy was not asleep. He was busy staring up to the TV, watching Episode II: Attack for the Clones for the 14th time. The young man stared at it with the amazement of a child; smiling at every action scene he saw. “Jedi.” He whispered.

On the couch, Hurley sat by one side and Joscelyn sat by the other. They were sleeping upright but with the proper pillows, it really didn’t make that much difference. To the right of Hurley, Karleigh and Dutch slept on the floor under one sleeping bag. The Large man would snore from time to time. Dutch casually slapped his dangling hand. Hurley then closed his mouth and breathed through his nose.

In the bedroom area, Tony and Marita slept near the foot of the bed; huddled together under a sleeping bag. To the side of the bed, Jenny slept near Kellye. Kate slowly opened her eyes, realizing she was drooling. She was even slightly embarrassed when she realized she was drooling on Seth. She wiped it off of his chest, wondering how she scooted over and wound up using his chest as a pillow. “You okay?” he whispered with his eyes closed.

“Yeah, sorry about that.” She giggled quietly.

“I don’t mind. Tanya used to do it all the time.”

Kate laid her head back down on his chest, rubbing his neck. “Tell me about her.” She whispered.

“Tanya? She . . . .she is as beautiful as Marilyn Monroe in my eyes. She’s a surf-betty, did you know that? I think she is happiest in the water. She loves to cook, especially for our group of friends. Whenever they come over to her loft, she always bakes something or fries something for them. I . . .love her, Kate.”

“I know you do.” She sighed.

“I love you too.”

“I love you too, Seth. You’ve been so kind to me on the Island.”

“No, honey,” Seth opened his eyes, looking at her,” I love you.”

Kate leaned up, looking at him. She tried not to cry, as she seemed to be crying a lot lately. Seth reached over and touched her neck, forcing her to look at him. “The moment you get the chance, you are running, aren’t you?” he asked.

She shook her head in agreement.

Seth winced his face slightly and brought her back down to his shoulder. “That’s why when we get home, I will go back to Tanya and I will marry her. She’s always been my one true love. For her, I will be the best husband I ever could be.”

“I know you will.” She whispered.

“But I can’t help how I feel. A part of my heart will always belong to you.”

“Seth, please . . .shut up,” she wept.

“But that’s why I want you to be safe. I’ll help you run, if I am able.”

“Thank you,” she said, gripping onto his shirt.

Kate then leaned up and kissed him, diving her tongue into his mouth. Seth held her close as their mouths continued their dance of passion. Were they not in a room full of people, he’d make love to her right then and there. Because in his soul, he knew this was the only moment he and Kate would every have. After their kiss, the two young people just stared at each. Kate leaned over and kiss him on the forehead. Then she leaned down and got back in her sleeping position. Seth reached his arm around and held her close. “Now go to sleep, Kate,” he whispered, “And dream beautiful dreams.”

“I haven’t dreamed beautiful dreams in a long time.” She sniffed.

“You will. I promise,” Seth said, going back to sleep.

Outside at the back of the boat, the groups were asleep in their respective positions. It was cold but not cold enough to hurt anybody. Mia slept close to John, resting on her side. At their feet, Shanna slept in an almost curled up fetal position. In the middle was Adam Cofax, snoring away. To his right, was Arizona and Chance, curled up together. At the front of the boat, slept Ana-Lucia by herself. She slept by the front lights because they produced a small amount of heat. It was the only lights that McKay left on; just incase a boat came across them in the middle of the night they would see them. The Latina cop slowly opened her eyes and then saw something moving in the water.

She leaned up abruptly and looked out into the darkness of the ocean. There was nothing but water to the horizon. Ana-Lucia dismissed it as slumber induced hallucinations and went back to sleep.

As she returned to dreamland, a fin emerged from the water and caressed the side of the boat, before it disappeared under the ocean liquid.
