Part 298: Second Strike

Embry grunted from the blows he received from Hal. The cop pummeled him from the back. The murderer tried to get up but every time he did, Hal slammed him back down again. The cop kept hitting the soldier on the back of the head. Every punch he threw was for every birthday, every sunrise, every Christmas he had missed with his son since he took him from him. Hal couldn’t stop hitting him. Then he gasped when he felt a bullet whiz by his back. It didn’t hit him but it came close. Then he jolted when he felt Embry’s elbow slam him in the jaw. Hal fell back into the ocean water, then it was Embry’s turn to hit him repeatedly.

Dutch rolled on the ground, grabbing the rifle that Hal threw him. He quickly cocked it back and then turned around. Karleigh was looking at him, as Ana-Lucia had her and Libby by the hand; running into the jungle for cover. The surfer felt he could fight on, knowing Karleigh was safe. He then heard familiar grunting sounds. Dutch turned toward his left to see Hal being held in the water by Embry. As he was rearing up to shoot the murderer in the back, he quickly noticed something out of the corner of his eye. A soldier was loading a RPG into it’s slot and pointing it at the fleeing crowd. He could take them all out in one shot. “HOLY CRAP!!!” Dutch screamed as he fired his gun at the soldier.

The rocket man grunted as bullets slammed into his back and exited through his chest. The jolting lurch made him grip the trigger and fire the weapon. The rocket shot off in another angle toward the jungle. It ricocheted off a thick tree then exploded in the ground ahead of a bunch of people. Near that explosion was Eddie, Jilly and his mother.

Eddie flew through the air for about five feet and landed hard onto the sand. He grunted from the collision. He leaned up and was scared; as he could not hear a single thing. The little boy started to slap his ears and the sound started to come back. He then looked up and saw in horror that his mother and Jilly were not moving. Barbara laid perfectly still, black soot covering her face; likewise with Jilly. Eddie didn’t know what to do so he screamed.

He continued to scream. Why did this happen? Why did he have to lose his mother, his father and the woman who would have made a perfect sister? A bullet struck a tree near him but he didn’t stop screaming. The little boy then thought some one was screaming his name. He continued to cry and scream. “EDDDIIIIEEEE!!!” Tony screamed behind him.

“Tony?” Eddie turned around.

The little boy jolted as his older friend grabbed him and twisted around, as a massive grouping of bullets struck the ground near him. Tony grunted as he landed against a tree, and then scooted around; protecting him and Eddie from the gunfire. Eddie sat in his lap; finally coming to his senses. “Eddie, you need to run, and get away from this.” Tony panted.

“Tony, no,” he said, pulling his shirt, “Mom and Jilly are hurt.”

“What?” the blind doctor gasped, “Get me too them.”

Eddie grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him with him. The two friends stayed low as they crawled on the ground; bullets flying over head. Eddie pulled Tony’s wrist until he placed his hand on his mother. The blind doctor then grabbed her and checked her wrist. “Is she okay?” he asked.

“She’s okay,” Tony told him, “She’s just unconscious.”

“We were near that explosion.” The little boy told him.

“Jilly is unconscious too.” Tony replied, reaching over to check her wrist, “ We’ve got to get them out of here.”

“Okay,” Eddie said, standing up.

Tony reached over to grab Barbara by the arm. He then pulled her over his shoulder into a fireman’s cradle. He then stood up, ready to take her. But he knew he couldn’t carry Jilly as well. “HEY!!!” he screamed, “HELP US OUT!!!”

“Tony, it’s okay,” Eddie grunted, “I got her.”

“You do?” Tony asked.

The blind doctor couldn’t see it but he could definitely hear it. Eddie had twist Jilly around and grabbed her arms, pulling them over his shoulders like straps on a backpack. As her head rested on his back, he started to pull her with him. Tony was amazed that Eddie was clearly pulling her with him; a woman that weighed just shy of a hundred pounds. The blind doctor could only conclude it was adrenaline and began to follow the sound as the boy led them away from the battle.

Behind them the man called Viking saw them pulling the unconscious females away from the fight. He couldn’t have thought of a better target. He quickly held up his rifle and aimed it for the back of Eddie’s head. Viking then jolted as he felt a blade stab him in the back and an arm wrap around his throat. “You . . vile, evil man,” Bernard whispered, as he twisted the blade, “You kill my wife in cold blood and now . . .you are going to shoot an innocent boy in the back, while he is helping his mother.”

“You better . . kill me, old man,” Viking grunted.

“What you did to my wife is between you and God. I just wanted to make sure you weren’t late for the meeting.”

Viking grunted again as the knife stabbed him again. Bernard twisted it again and the tall blonde man gasped for his last breath. The black man let him go as he fell to the ground dead. He held the bloody knife in his hand, seeing it drip from the handle to the ground. “Forgive me, Rose,” he coughed.

Bernard then jerked as he felt a bullet enter his back. He gagged and coughed, feeling the strange metal pierce his right rib. Another soldier came up to him screaming, then shot him again. The black man twisted like a top and collapsed near a tree. He coughed, dropped against the sand. The soldier didn’t even bother to finish him off; he quickly ran off into the distance to join his comrades. Bernard took a deep breath as blood began to escape from the wounds in his back.

Jenny flung her nunchuks around, smashing the head of one soldier, then twirled and smashed the head of another. The two men continued to try and fight her but she would knock them down before they had a chance to attack. Behind her she heard the loud clanking of the M-60 as Kellye continued to fire, covering their friends at the escape. Jenny then turned to see three soldiers running toward her. She stood her ground preparing to fight. Then out of nowhere a black cloud of smoke poured out from the woods. The young teenager gasped as the black cloud shined it’s blue eyes, looking at her. Then it flooded toward the three soldiers, consuming them all at one. Jenny cupped her arms behind her head and ducked as Monoxide flew over her. As it did, the soldier’s weapons began to fall out of the cloud one at a time. However, the soldiers didn’t fall. Jenny could only assume Monoxide was eating them. “JENNY!!!” Kristy screamed from the woods, “COME ON!!!”

Everything was happening too fast. Jenny didn’t want to leave the beach until Kellye was safe. But Kristy was calling for her and she had to make sure her model friend was safe. But it still didn’t change the fact that MONOXIDE WAS ON THE BEACH!! What did the security system need to be here? The young teenager then looked in horror as a large shape was plowing through the trees. She recognized the metal glint of Mecha.

And Kristy was directly in it’s path.

Jenny didn’t have time to scream for her to get out of the way. She then grasped her nunchuks and then ran toward Kristy. The model thought her young friend was joining her to run away; she heard the crashing of the trees. Kristy turned around to see the giant robot heading toward her. By the time she screamed, Jenny tackled her; getting her out of the path at the last second. Mecha came to the beach and then abruptly stopped; rotated to another direction, then headed down to the other end of the beach. Kristy and Jenny then looked up at two of the tree Mecha plowed through were falling right toward the. In the wake of the battle, all they could do was scream. Jenny covered Kristy best she could, then they felt the leaves brush their heads.

Then that was it.

Jenny slowly opened her eyes, to fight her face covered in palm tree leaves. Kristy stopped her panic attack and looked up. Then slowly the trees began to rise up. The young teenager then gasped at the sight of her companion, throw the trees backwards. “Raven?” she gulped.

The masked man stared at her briefly, then turned and ran toward the beach. Soldiers immediately began to fire on him but amazingly he disappeared in a blue flash then reappeared two feet to his right. He repeated this teleportation several times; making the soldiers unable to shoot him. By the time he reached them, he slammed his arms into their necks, breaking them instantly.

Jenny watched her mysterious friend run down the beach. Kristy got up and stood next to her. “That’s your friend, Raven.” She mentioned.

“Yes.” Jenny blinked.

“I thought . . you said he was dead?”

“He was!” the teenager gasped.

“Dude, did you see that??” Hurley said, behind them, “That Raven, dude is like . . alive and stuff. He threw through the trees-“

“Hurley, why are you still here?” Jenny turned to see him and Joscelyn standing next to a tree.

“We wanted to make sure you guys were okay.” Joscelyn said.

“We’re fine, now we are getting out of here.” Jenny turned around, “If the monsters are attacking the soldier’s, then we’ll let them mop up. Where is Kellye?”

“There!” Kristy pointed down the beach.

Kellye continued to fire her weapon, until Mecha rolled past her. The giant robot grabbed two soldiers by the legs and started to swing them wildly. The young girl then picked up the huge gun, grunting at it’s weight. She quickly turned around to find them.

Only to have a female soldier running toward her with a pistol out in front.

Kellye turned to fire but the female soldier called Eve fired her gun first. The girl’s head jerked as the bullet collided with her forehead. She collapsed to the sand, throwing the gun to the side. A small blood trail began to ooze down between her eyes.

“KELLLLLLYYYEEEEE!!!!!” Joscelyn screamed.
