Part 113: Reunions

“GET OFF OF ME!” Jenny screamed as Martin and Kristy grabbed her.

Kate and Sayid got in her way, as they were protecting a wounded Jack. The doctor turned over on his side, and spit out the blood from his mouth. Jenny tried to get out of Martin and Kristy’s arms, kicking her legs like a wild child. John was amazed at the rage she had; almost foaming at the mouth. “JENNY, COOL IT!” Martin screamed.

“LET ME GO!!” she screamed, “I’M GONNA KILL HIM!!!”

“Please, calm down!” Sayid said, “Exactly who do you think this is? You must have mistaken him for someone else!”

“I know EXACTLY who he is!” Jenny retorted.

“What is your problem?” Kate yelled back, “Why did you hit him?”

“Because, “Jack coughed, “I deserved it.”

The group went silent. Kate was in awe; hearing Jack verify that the young teenage girl did indeed know him. Sayid was curious about what happened between them but in the end, he knew it was none of his business. Marita just told Tony what happened. Jenny stared at Jack with tears of rage coming down her cheeks. Kristy and Martin held onto her, cause they knew if they let her go, she’d attack him again. Tony coughed, deciding to say something. “Jenny, It’s obvious you know this man,” he said, “Despite whatever history you have between him, it also happens that we are their guests. Please, do not attack him again.”

Jenny slowly calmed down. She liked Tony and respected him; enough to the point where she would do what he said. Kristy and Martin slowly let her go. Jack spit the blood out of his mouth again and looked at the girl with sad eyes. “Jenny,” he whispered, “For what it’s worth . . .I’m sorry.”

“STUFF IT, JACK!” she pointed to him, “I AM NOT . . .the one . .you should be apologizing to.”

Jack didn’t say anything. He lowered his head and walked over to Sayid. “Please,” he whispered, “Give them whatever they want.”

Jenny then walked over and sat down with Kristy and Martin. Jack spit out blood yet again and then walked into a side alcove. Sayid, and the oriental woman began to give them all fruit to eat. The oriental woman gave some fruit to Kristy, who in turn past it to Jenny and Martin. The young teenager was still fuming. Kristy took a bite into the fruit, looking at her friend. “That’s him?” she whispered.

“That’s him,” Jenny grunted.

Kristy had heard Jenny mention her sister many times. She was always quick to mention the man who hurt her sister as well. At the time, she had made a deal with Brendon that if she revealed a secret truth about her, she might feel better. Jenny said the only way she could feel better was to beat the snot out of the man who hurt her sister Sarah. And there he was. “What are the odds.” Kristy muttered.

“Yeah,” Jenny hissed, “What are the odds?”

“That was one hell of a punch though.”

“Punch?” Martin gagged, “Kristy, she didn’t punch him. She laid his ass out!”

Jenny smirked at her friend’s comment. Then she noticed someone standing in front of her. It was the one they called Sawyer. He had a white bag in his hand and he was crunching it up. It was one of those Cold Packs, where you mixed up the chemicals inside to create a coldness. Sawyer kneeled down and gently placed it on the hand that Jenny used to hit Jack. He winked at her, “Nice hit, Slugger.”

“Uh . . thanks,” she replied, massaging the cold pack on her knuckles.

Inside the alcove Jack was sitting on a rock stump. He was leaning over, allowing the blood to drip from his mouth. Kate slowly walked in, looking at him. The doctor then coughed, reaching into his mouth. He grunted with his fingers half in. Then he made a loud grunted and pulled his fingers out, holding one of his teeth. “Oh, my god,” Kate muttered.

“I’m lucky she didn’t kill me.” He said, tossing the tooth aside.

Jack walked up to his medical supplies. He pulled out a cream colored bowl, a bottle of water and a small cup of hydrogen peroxide. Jack slowly mixed the water and a small amount of the medical liquid. Then he picked up the bowl and drank it. Grunted, he swirled it around in his mouth and then spit it out onto the ground. “This way I won’t get an infection,” he commented.

“Jack, she had no right to hit you!” Kate pointed out.

“She had every right,” he said, sitting down.

“Why? What did you do to her?”

“I broke her sisters heart.”

“When did this happen?”

“Kate, please, I don’t want to talk about it.” Jack grunted.

“Okay,” she said, leaving it alone.

“Just do me a favor . . .don’t agitate her . .just . . help her and her friends.”

Kate then blinked at the statement, “Why worry about agitating her? She’s just a kid.”

“A kid who also happens to be an expert in Jeet Kune Do,” Jack pointed out, “Kate, the last time I saw that girl she was 13. She was in a karate tournament, winning metal after metal. Then I saw her punch through four cinder block plates. Trust me: stay away from her.”

Kate nodded her head. She wanted to ask Jack more about it. In truth, she was dying to know more about him; about his past. However, she was not fully prepared to dip into it just yet. If she did, she’d have to be fair and tell her about the crime she supposedly did.

She just wasn’t ready.

Back the main section of the cave, the group was still resting. They were finally warm thanks to the blankets and the fire. Tony was standing up, putting on the clothes he managed to keep dry. He gently put on a flannel shirt which he cut the sleeves out of. Then he felt a presence near him and could already recognize the sound of the particular form of breathing. “Hello, Sayid.” He whispered.

“How did you know it was me?” he inquired.

“My body is compensating for my lack of sight by increasing my other senses, “he replied, “My hearing, my smell, they’ve all improved over the last 26 days.”

“I was wanting to inquire how you felt.”

“I’m fine now, thank you,” the blind doctor smiled, “I apologize for Jenny hitting Jack the way she did.”

“Clearly they have some issues to work out,” Sayid smiled, “But you seemed to handle them well.”

“They trust me. I’ve been a voice of reason for them to follow.”

“Truly,” Sayid smiled, seeing how their situation mirrored their own with Jack as their leader.

“Anyway, Sayid, I need a favor.”

“What is it you require?”

“See that boy behind me?” Tony motioned with his head, “His name is Eddie Trascal. His parents are Edward and Barbara Trascal. They were on the front half of the plane when it crashed.”

“Why was he in the rear?”

“It’s a long story. Do you know his parents?”

“The name Trascal is not familiar to me,” he said, patting him on the arm, “But a friend named Hurley wrote down the names off the passengers to know who was who. I will retrieve him.”

“Thank you.”

“BERNIE!” someone screamed.

Tony turned around and Sayid looked at what was happening. The one black woman called Rose came into the cave. Then Bernard threw off his blanket and ran to her. The couple quickly embraced. Bernard couldn’t stop kissing her. Yolanda almost started to cry; realizing this was Bernard’s wife. The older woman just hugged him, crying. “I never stopped believing,” she whispered, “I knew you’d come back to me.”

“I love you, wife.” He said, kissing her forehead.

Marita gently too Tony’s hand, squeezing it. The blind doctor smiled; happy that Bernard was reunited with his wife Rose.

It was nice to know one reunion went off happily.
