Part 312: Late Supper
The night had enveloped the ocean like old friend. The moon shined high above, reflecting a beautiful white line across the water. On the Butterfly Rogue, the group was celebrating their victory over the sharks by eating on. Jin was in the back of the boat, carving up the various meaty parts of the shark. Sun stood by with the plates ready to take them down to storage. They had already cooked enough steaks for everybody to enjoy a meal. Hurley walked up from below the cabin, rubbing his full stomach. “Sun, if you two every want to open up a resteruant, I’ll give you the money to do such a thing.” He joked as he climbed the railing to join the others at the front.
Sun translated what Hurley said to Jin in Korean. The loving couple then laughed at what the large man said. Jin then proceeded to slice off another chunk from the large fish, then paused. Jin and Sun looked at each other with faces filled with ideas. “You think he’s serious?” Jin asked his wife in their native tongue.
Hurley scooted past the rails and wound up at the front of the boat with everybody else. The group was gathered around, sharing sodas, beer and chocolate. Seth was leaning against a railing while Mia would occasionally throw candy into his mouth. Shanna would giggle every time he did, trying to keep her soda from coming out her nose. Marita and Kate were laughing and telling jokes. Dutch was with Karleigh and they shared Chocolate covered cherries with Hurley and Joscelyn. Kellye was enjoying her first beer in a long time, letting everybody knew that the alcohol dulled the pain. Jenny smirked as she gave her friend a neck massage. John, McKay and Tony were hanging out with Sawyer and Chance, laughing over beers. Arizona smiled, seeing her husband enjoying time with the “buds”. The brunette then looked to Taylor, Mandy and Ana-Lucia who was enjoying Alexander’s new understanding of movies. Mandy was laughing so hard she was crying. “Arizona, have you seen Alexander with his impressions?” she giggled.
“No.” she laughed.
“Alex, please, please do the Yoda again!”
The wild boy put down his soda and then used his hands to push his eyebrows down and he curled up his mouth to a thin line. “Begun this Clone War, has,” he hissed.
Mandy screamed in delight, slapping her hands down rapidly on the boat. Taylor just held her eyes while she laugh. Ana-Lucia giggled as she finished her bear. Then everybody looked as Jin and Sun finally joined them after picking the best pieces off the shark. “Hail to the Chef!” Hurley said, holding his soda into the air.
Everybody laughed and clapped at them. Jin smiled and bowed briefly as he and Sun joined Marita and Kate. John then stood up, using the rails for balancing. “Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to propose a series of toast.” He said.
Everybody stopped what they were doing and looked to him. John took another swig of his beer and then held up his bottle. “To Adam,” he said, “We barely knew him but that didn’t change the fact that he was one of us. May he rest in peace.”
Everybody held up their glasses. “To Adam.” They said in unison.
John took another swig, then balanced on the railing again. “Now, to my suicidal friend Tony, “ he laughed, “Who knows it’s better to eat, than to BE eaten.”
The group laughed at the comment. Tony smirked as he clanked his beer bottle with John’s as the archer sat back down. McKay then got up on his knees and held the glass toward Mandy and Taylor. “To my two special ladies, “the Australian smiled, “ Who, if they didn’t warn us in time, we probably would have all gone in the drink.”
“Here, here,” Ana-Lucia said, holding up her bottle.
The group cheered the likes of the So-Cal Coeds. Taylor blushed slightly, letting her head fall into Mandy’s shoulder. The young blonde just laughed, holding her friend. John then motioned for Tony to stand up. “What?” the blind doctor laughed, “What for?”
“Your turn to make a toast, Tony,” John urged him, “McKay and I did it, so therefore you need to do it.”
“All for one and one for all!” Marita laughed, cheering her man.
Everybody laughed as Tony got to his feet, holding onto the railing so he didn’t tip over. The blind man adjusted the new blindfold he had and then smiled at his friend. “I was hoping I didn’t have to make a toast, cause I have quiet a few.” He joked.
“Go ahead, Tony,” Kate urged him, as did the rest of the crowd.
“Okay, okay,” he said, laughing and drinking his beer, “To my other two musketeers. If I could adopt John and McKay as I my brothers, I would do so.”
“Thanks, man, “John said, clanking his beer bottle to his.
“To my sweet Marita, “ he smiled, “Who I hope never to scare the crap out of her again.”
“I love you, you jerk!” she laughed, making Kate laugh with her.
Tony paused for a second to take another swig of his alcohol. “ To all of you,” he said to the rest of the crowd, “You are the best people I know. I mean that.”
“Thanks, Tony,” Mia said, for the rest of the crowd.
“To the Polliwog,” Tony stopped and laughed hard. John held onto him as he leaned over a bit. When the blind man caught himself, he finished, “To the Polliwog . ..the best . . .WATCHDOG . . .a man could ask for.”
The group laughed and cheered for the monster that protected them back on the Island and once at sea. Tony took his final swig and then sat down back on his knees before he fell over. “Last but not least, to Sawyer,” he said, facing the redneck, “The best liar the world has every seen.”
Sawyer then looked mildly insulted. The others asked Tony what his problem was but he held up a hand to show them he wasn’t finished. “To the best liar the world has every known,” he said, facing him, “All this time pretending to be a complete Ass . . .when the truth was he was actually a Hero underneath.”
Sawyer smirked as he clanked his bottle toward Tony’s. “Much appreciated, Cochise.” He smiled.
Shanna clapped her hands rapidly together with a big smile for Sawyer. Kate just sighed, smiling at the young girl’s constant crush. The brunette then finished her beer and threw the bottle over board, making a splash. The group laughed at the noise it made. Mia almost felt like telling her about polluting but after what they went through today, she figured she would save the speeches for another day. Kate then got up on her feet; which was difficult to do with just one harm free from her sling. “You okay, Kate?” Marita asked.
“Yeah, I . .uh . . .need to go down below.” She smiled.
“Want me to help you?”
“I’ll do it.” Sawyer said, throwing his bottle into the water.
Before Marita could say anything, she smiled; closing her grin with her fingers. Sawyer walked over to Kate and let her put her arm around his neck. He then began to glide her through the rails and back to the entrance of the stairway as they slowly walked down. “How you feeling?” he asked.
“Slightly tipsy but not completely drunk.” Kate smirked, “I need more than two beers.”
“I need more than twenty.” He laughed in reply.
Kate slowly turned to him and leaned forward, touching his chest. The redneck looked down at her, letting his breath caress her forehead. “Sawyer, what I said back on the Island,” she started.
“What you said,” Sawyer completed for her, “You had to say. You care about Jack. It’s not a secret.”
“No . .it’s not.” She admitted.
“But you care about me too. And the Elvis wannabe. I am only glad I apart into the Food Pyramid there.”
“Food Pyramid?” she giggled.
“Yeah. You ready for your daily helping from the Sawyer group?” he flickered his eyebrows.
“Sawyer, I am trying to be serious here,” she said, playfully hitting his chest.
“Hey, one of us has to relieve the tension between us,” he said, innocently.
“All I am trying to say is. I agree with Tony. You may act like a bad man but you are not a bad man. And . . .I like that about you.”
Sawyer smiled. “Thank you.” He whispered, “I guess . . .that group of people had grown on me.”
“So, you forgive me for what I said?”
“I had forgiven you long ago, Freckles. But . . .If I can have another kiss, I’ll forgive you for whatever you do.”
Kate smirked and then leaned forward, giving him a kiss. Sawyer held her close and embraced him, holding the taste of her in his mouth. The brunette reached up, and pulled his hair; making come closer to her. The two enjoy their company, more often than not. As they part, Sawyer just smiled at her with his southern gentleman look. Kate blushed slightly then patted him on the chest. “I need to go bed,” she whispered.
“There is a joke in there but I am not going to say it.” He said, turning around and walking away.
“Thank you . . .for being you.” She smiled.
“Who else can I be, Freckles?” Sawyer said, turning around, “You know, I think that kiss was better than the first one.”
“Oh, yeah?” the brunette smirked.
“Yeah, cause I didn’t have to get tortured to get it,” he said, before hitting the stairs, “Sleep tight, Freckles and don’t let the Seth-Bugs bite.”
Kate giggled at Sawyer’s jealousy over Seth, before she held onto the door to get back into the bed before she pasted out on the floor.
McKay opened the door to the bridge, swearing he heard something. He blinked when he realized he did. “McKay, please respond,” Sayid said over the radio.
The Australian walked over and picked it up, clicking it on. “Yeah, Sayid, come in?” he answered.
“It’s about time. I’ve been trying to page you for the last ten minutes.” The Iraqi said.
“Sorry about that. We’ve been out on the deck of the boat, enjoying our supper.”
“Oh. Well, this time I forgive you. Is everybody all right?”
McKay turned as John, and Tony came into the bridge with him. The two friends had heard what Sayid had asked. Tony gently shook his head NO. “Yeah, everything is fine here.” He answered, “Just one boring long trip. We’re trying to make Sawyer take a bath daily so he doesn’t stink.”
“That is good to know.” Sayid answered, “We should be at Broadway by tomorrow.”
“Is everybody all right over there?” Tony asked.
“Is everybody all right with you, Sayid?” McKay asked for the blind man.
“Yes, everyone is doing fine. Nothing strange happening here, which is a blessing for once. Eddie misses your company but other than that, we are fine.”
Tony then took the radio from McKay. “Sayid, you watch him for me, okay?” he spoke.
“Hello, Tony. Yes, I am keeping both eyes on Eddie. He is an adventurous soul. I think he takes that after you.”
“Thank you, my friend. We’ll try to contact you tomorrow.”
“Sweet dreams, Tony.” Sayid said, then clicked of his end of the radio.
Tony gently placed the receiver down on the counter. He leaned back and crossed his arms. John reached up and held onto the overhead railing as he looked to his two good friends. “Didn’t want to worry them?” he asked.
“Yes,” Tony whispered, “I feel bad about not telling them about the sharks but in the end, it’s better that way. They would have only worried themselves to death.”
“We’ll tell them when we get them off the Island.” McKay said.
The three friends agreed. After a brief moment of silence, they slowly began to get out of the bridge and down the ladder to find places to sleep. Hurley and Dutch volunteered to help Jin dumb the shark carcass overboard. Everybody else who was sleeping in the back were going to sleep up from with Ana-Lucia, who didn’t mind the company.
But Alexander begged to watch Attack of the Clones one more time.
Sun translated what Hurley said to Jin in Korean. The loving couple then laughed at what the large man said. Jin then proceeded to slice off another chunk from the large fish, then paused.
