Part 91: The War Party

Tony held onto Marita as they strode through the jungle. Every one had gone into the local part of the jungle to see if they could find some kind of trace of Mia or John. Tony grunted through his teeth; feeling awful for allowing them to be in the jungle alone for so long. It was only happenstance that the Black Faction attacked. It didn’t seem like they would but they did.

Seth walked with Brendon and Shanna. The three friends had grown to love Mia like a little sister. They didn’t appreciate what the Black Faction did. They weren’t going to rest until they found her.

In another portion of the jungle, Mia wept as she was being led through it. Then she collapsed onto her knees a second time as the lost boys shoved her down. She then heard a blade being removed from it’s sheath. Her heart skipped a beat wondering what was going to happen to her. Then she felt the blade cut away her blindfold. She took a deep breath as it felt from her face. Then she heard the boys running away.

She slowly turned around, looking through tear stroked eyes. There were only two of them and they quickly disappeared into the foliage of the jungle. Mia collected herself. She turned back around and saw the shining light of the sun and slight breech of the ocean. They had delivered her back to the beach. She then slowly stood up. She didn’t want to move; she wanted to lay down and cry. But she thought of John and the suffering he was about to endure. They had a chance. They had a chance to get him out. Move it, Mia, she thought to herself.

She walked out of the jungle and stepped onto the hot sand. She looked around and immediately noticed the large rock where most people went to the bathroom. That told her she wasn’t far from her friends. She then began walking toward where she knew where the encampment would be. Knowing fun well she should really run, she found that she couldn’t. All her strength had left her.

Mia walked past the Bathroom Rock and toward the encampment. In the distance she saw little movement. Had the Black Faction killed her friends? Was she destined to be living on the island alone? Her hope and her faith was fading fast. But she still strived to push forward; she couldn’t give up. Not if John was gonna survive. “Mia?” Taylor whispered.

The Lakota girl stopped, seeing Taylor and Mandy emerge from the jungle. She muttered help me under her gag. Taylor quickly got behind her and started to untie her bonds. Mandy reached up and pulled down the gag from her throat. “Mia, are you okay?” she asked, “Where is John?”

All Mia could do was cry. She sniffed and stopped for a breath second, and whispered, “Tony, . . “

“We’ll get you to him,” Taylor said, throwing her bonds away.

The two blondes surrounded Mia in an embraced and began to walk with her back to the camp. As they walked, Bernard was the first one to spot them from the camp. He started screaming and waving his hands to the others in the jungle. One by one the survivors emerged from the woods. Seth, Shanna and Brendon ran as fast as they could toward her. Mia collapsed in Shanna’s arms, crying up a storm. The red head did her best to comfort her friend but she wasn’t sure it any of it would be enough.

By the time they got her back to the encampment, everybody was gathered. Tony walked toward the crying Lakota girl. “Get back,” he ordered everybody, “Give her room to breathe.”

“Tony . .” she whimpered again.

“Mia, I’m here,” he said, reaching out to her.

The Lakota girl grabbed his shirt and dropped her fact into his chest crying. He patted her on the back, comforting her. Then she slowly pushed her back from him. “Mia, are you okay?” he asked, “Where is John?”

“John . .they . ..they . . .” she could barely talk.

Tony’s face began to contort under his blindfold, in a mixture of sadness and rage. “Mia, . .did they kill him?” he asked with quivering lips.

“Tony . .they . . they sealed him up,” she said, struggling to talk, “There was a cave . .it . .it had a small section in it and they sealed him up and they made me watch while they did it.”

Tony’s good eye began to shed a small tear, falling from the blindfold. “They . .they buried him alive?” he asked.

“Yes,” Mia wept.

“I don’t get it,” Seth asked confused, “Why do that to John? Why not do it to Mia too?”

Mia blinked. She then looked to Seth, “It’s because . . .they wanted me to deliver a message.”

She quickly reached into her jean jacket pocket and pulled out the piece of paper Cedric stuffed in there. She quickly unfolded it and looked at it. It wasn’t in English, nor French but a very badly drawn picture. McKay looked over her shoulder and expected it to be in French but Black Faction never knew he spoke it. “What is it?” asked Marita.

“It’s a very bad child-like drawing,” McKay whispered, “It shows a bald man with a giant blade and a blindfolded man walking in the jungle. There is an arrow from them, leading them to a cave area.”

“Bald man with a blade and a blindfolded man?” Mia sniffed, “They want you and Tony to go after John.”

“If that ain’t a trap, I don’t know what is.” Seth mentioned.

“Tony, what should we do?” asked Marita.

Tony didn’t answer. The tears kept coming down his face. He then gritted his teeth and both his fists were clinched. “They buried him.” He whispered.

“Tony,” Marita said, looking at him contorting into rage.

“They buried him,” he repeated, “He didn’t deserve that.”

Before anybody could say anything, Tony then broke from the group and stormed to the edge of the jungle. “HEEEYYYYY!” he screamed, “I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME!!!!”

The group watched Tony as he screamed into the trees. He was screaming so loud he was able to cause an echo. “YOU CAN’T TAKE MY FRIEND AND GET AWAY WITH IT, YOU BASTARDS!!!!” he screamed.

Tony took a few deep breaths and then screamed, “YOU WANT A WAR???? YOU GOT ONE!!!”

Marita came to him and embraced him. The blind doctor gripped onto his lover, holding onto her for support. He had never been so enraged in his life. His heart was threatening to explode from his chest had he gotten any madder. He took another deep breath and gently parted from her. The Latina let him back to the group. McKay could feel the rage coming from him and all it was doing was fueling his own. “McKay, sharpen your blade.” The doctor whispered, “We are going to go get our friend.”

“Damn right.” The Australian grunted.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------,

Tony and McKay began to get ready. The Australian had found a stone a few days ago, that he used to sharpen the machete. At that moment he was sharpening the short sword he stole from the Black Faction. When he was done, he tucked it back into the former sheath of the machete. He turned and looked at Taylor. He could tell her in her eyes she didn’t want him to go but she also knew she couldn’t talk him out of it. The two lovers embraced, hoping it wouldn’t be the final time.

Tony checked the .45 pistol that John had given him. He had cleaned it and slicked it’s inner workings as best as he could. The blind doctor hoped it would fire when he needed it too. He stood up and shoved the gun in the back of his pants. Due to her special scent, he could tell Marita was near him. She slowly approached him, gently caressing his arm. “You want me to go with you or stay here?” she asked.

“Forgive me.. .but I want you stay here.” He whispered.

“It’s okay,” she said, kissing his cheek.

Tony then felt his arm being pulled by Eddie. The blind doctor kneeled down and embraced the little boy. Eddie hugged onto him, not wanting to let him go. As they parted, he looked at the blind man. “I know you can bring Uncle John back,” he whimpered, “You’re . .Daredevil.”

Tony smiled. He leaned over and kissed Eddie on the forehead. Then he stood up and walked out. He had to check on the others.

Tony had come up with a plan to thwart the Black Faction. The drawing indicated that they wanted just McKay and Tony to show up to the trap they laid for them. But the blind doctor asked for volunteers to flank the boys while they made their way toward the caves. The people that stepped up didn’t hesitate. Brendon stuck his sword into his side belt. Shanna realized Mia was going back in, so she got her short sword ready that the twins gave her. Martin asked for McKay’s machete and he gave it to him. Seth promised to stick by Brendon during the fight. Kristy helped Jenny get ready. The young teenager tied torn pieces of cloth around her knuckles, while her model friend tired more cloth around her elbows. “You never told me you knew Martial Arts.” Kristy whispered.

“It never came up, “Jenny smiled, “But I’ll make you a deal. If I make it back with John, then I’ll tell you whatever you want to know.”

“Deal,” Kristy smiled.

“Anybody know how to use a gun?” Tony asked.

“I do,” Seth answered.

Tony motioned for him to come to him. Seth walked over and saw the blind doctor reaching for one of the two metal cases. He picked one up, opened it and gave the .45 pistol to Seth. The young man took the clip and slammed it, cocking back the breach like he used it all his life. Brendon smiled; knowing it was probably his friend’s photographic reflexes that allowed him to do such a thing. Tony then turned to the group that decided to stay behind. “Anybody else know how to use a gun?” asked the blind man.

No one said anything. They lowered their heads and made silent whispers. “I do,” Cecil confessed.

Tony turned his head toward the old man. They haven’t ever agreed on anything since they were marooned here. But why would Cecil be stepping up to the plate now? Tony didn’t trust him; and if they made it back, he would demand the old man return the gun. But now they didn’t have much of a choice. The blind doctor picked up the case, walked over and held it out Cecil. The old man then took it, checking it out. “I can count on you to make sure they don’t hurt the others?” Tony asked.

“You bet, doc,” he said, arming the pistol.

“I’m being serious, Cecil,” Tony hissed.

“So I am, chief,” the old man cocked the breech of the gun, “I can promise you one thing; I’ll die before they do.”

Tony shook his head, “Fair enough.”

The others then prepared to move out. Mia was more upset than the others but she hid it well; she buried her rage deep within her. She knew she had to keep a cool head to get John back. Shanna tapped her on the shoulder as they were getting ready to move out. Before she turned around, Natasha approached her. Mia just looked at the tall brunette. Natasha tried to say something but her lips weren’t working. She rubbed the back of her head and then whispered, “Good luck.”

“Thank you,” Mia replied.

Mia turned and began to walk with the others. McKay led the group, holding Tony by the wrist. None of them were sure what the next few hours would bring.

They only hope they live them well.
