Part 84: Questions and Answers Part 2
The day continued and the talks continued as well. While the other kids were enjoying visiting and getting to know the other survivors, Tony, John and McKay spent the majority of the time with Alexander. Tony was filled with questions and McKay also asked for him. The young blonde leader responded in the only way he knew.
He told them of his life there on the island. How he has been living here since he was a small boy. Then as he learned to live off the land, he was visited by more and more children. McKay asked where they came from and Alexander had no clue; they just appeared at random. Most of them didn’t speak when they arrived, so Alexander taught them his language; French. Which explained why everybody spoke it. The young leader also told them of the Men of War, as he described them. These men would come once a year to provide supplies; food, blankets, clothing, supplies, whatever they needed. Tony deduced that since their carried swords with the motto of the French Foreign Legion; it was only obvious to assume that those were the Men of War Alexander was talking about. Unfourunatley, the boy knew nothing of these soldiers or even why they were there in the first place. All he knew is that they stopped coming three years ago.
Tony also asked if they were going to have another problem with the Black Faction. Alexander wasn’t sure considering he didn’t control that group anymore. They had broken off with them about a year and a half ago. They had been at “war”, if one could call it that. But they created their own Cease Fire when two of their party died. Alexander warned them that they might seek revenge for the boy they killed. John made sure McKay told the young leader that he would take it back if he could. Alexander confessed he believed him. He had a feeling that Tony and the others were good people.
Tony wished he had more to offer Alexander but the blonde boy said he had more than he ever could hope for. Taylor then came over and gently took McKay’s arm. “How are the peace talks coming?” she asked.
“Okay. He seems like a good kid,” the Australian smiled.
“Then if you guys are through talking shop, can you ask him a question for me?”
“What do you want to know, Luv?”
“Why the devil do they were those masks constantly?”
McKay tapped Alexander on the shoulder and when he turned around, he pointed to the red cloth around his neck and asked him why he wore it. Alexander held it aloft and McKay translated it, “So the Others don’t recognize me and take . . .my soul?”
“Others?” Tony heard that, “What Others?”
McKay asked him and he answered with ,”The Others than strike in the Darkness. They can be heard by their whispering.”
“Whispering?” John blinked.
The archer looked to this Australian friend. They both quickly remembered when they were retrieving the food Calhoon was hording, in the jungle they heard whispering. John walked up to Alexander and then asked, “Has the Others taken any of your people?”
McKay asked in French and the blonde boy answered with, “Yes, they have. They took someone important to me. Plus, they took two of the soldiers once. I partly believe that is the reason they stopped coming.”
“What do the Others do with these people they take?” Taylor asked.
McKay asked and Alexander responded with, “That is not known to me. All I know is that when they are taken, they are never heard from again.”
The group was silent over what the boy had just told them. Two of them had already heard the whispering in the darkness of the jungle. They had already encountered the Polliwog more than once. What other mysterious circumstances await them out there?
Before they could say anything, Alexander then spoke heavily to them in French. He continued on for a seconds, then stopped. He motioned for McKay to translate. The Australian smirked and said, “He just said, he hopes that he has answered all the questions we have for him. Now he wants to ask about us.”
“Seems fair, “ Tony smiled, “What does he want to know?”

Brendon and Seth sat together while watching the other survivors get to know the teenagers of the Red Faction. Jenny, Kristy and Martin were playing with the wolves, who seemed very friendly. Shanna was still hanging out with the twins she had made friends with earlier. Mia was doing her best to teach Marie English. Bernard was reading from the Time Magazine they found. The kids didn’t understand a word of what he said, but they were able to look at the pictures. Natasha was getting to know some of the girls, by helping them put blonde highlights in their hair. It was definitely a strange culture bonding expierence.
Seth looked over all the girls. He sighed, feeling lonely. The young man realized he could probably convince any one of these girls to share time with him but he decided against it. He wanted to remain true to Tanya. Most of his friends would probably consider that an outdated concept but he always considered himself old-fashioned anyway. Then his eyes caught something in the distance. He looked at once of the girls and recognized her; even though this time she wore clothes. Seth tapped Brendon’s arm and pointed at the one they called Andra. “Recognizer her?” he asked.
“The girl from the waterfall,” he whispered.
“So her name is Andra. Strange name but I guess it’s French or something.”
“Well, it definitely explains why she was singing a song in French.”
“I saw her too.” A small voice said behind them.
Brendon and Seth turned around to see the smiling form of Eddie. The boy grinned at them, holding onto Mr. Kangaroo. Seth blinked, realizing the boy was serious. “Sit down here, Buddy,” he said, patting the sat between him and his friend.
Eddie walked over and sat down between them. Seth put his arm around him and pointed to Andra. “You’ve seen THAT girl before?” he asked.
“Mmm, hmm,” the boy shook his head.
“Where did you see her?” asked Brendon.
“When Marita and me were out picking coconuts. I had seen her the second day we were doing it. I hadn’t really gotten to know everybody back then, so I just thought she was one of us. I called to her but she ran away.”
Seth rubbed his forehead and then looked to his friend, “If what Eddie says is true, then that means they knew about us before we knew about them.”
“But their leader, Alexander, acts as if they have met us for the first time.” Brendon pointed out.
“Why didn’t she tell them about us?”
“I don’t know, “ the Asian man whispered, “Perhaps she was afraid.”
“Well, now that she is here on our turf and we have a translator, I think I will go ask her this time.”
