Part13: Eddie Meets Ethan
Eddie wondered through the jungle. He would occasionally turn around to make sure he could see the beach from wherever he was walking. Tony had told him not to wander far. He liked Tony. The little boy was beginning to think of him as a big brother. Without Mom and Dad around, it would just be him and Tony. No one yelling, just two friends having fun.
Eddie then found another small suitcase. He picked it up and shook it. It banged together like it had more than just clothes. Plus it was smaller, kinda like a brief case. Then an object fell from the sky, making him squeak. Eddie looked up then down at the object.
It was a giant green ball.
He looked back up to the sky and could see more collected in the trees. Where these coconuts? Eddie picked it up and shook it. They didn’t look like any coconut he had ever seen. It looked around and tried to look for other things, like pineapple and bananas. Nothing. “That’s a coconut.” Someone said behind him.
Eddie turned around to see a tall thin man, smiling at him. Eddie looked at the coconut and then back to the man. “I thought coconuts were brown and like a baseball.”
“It is, “ the man kneeled down to him, “But it’s inside that green husk. You got to carve it open to get to it.”
“And these things got milk?”
“That’s right,” the man laughed.
Eddie extended his hand to the nice man, “I’m Eddie.”
“Ethan, “the man said, returning the shake.
Ethan then rubbed the little boy’s hair. Eddie was confused why Ethan was acting this way. “You would have been perfect,” the older man whispered, “It’s a shame you’re tainted.”
“What’s that mean?” the little boy asked.
“It means I can’t save you. You’ll have to save yourself.”
“Huh?” Eddie said, getting confused.
“Eddie?” someone called from behind.
The little boy turned around and saw his friend Marita. She had changed clothes, which Eddie thought looked more normal onto her. He held his coconut like a football and ran to his lady friend. Marita watched the little boy approached her. She then looked at the man who was talking to Eddie. He stood up and smiled at her. It seemed like a friendly smile but it disturbed her. There was something about the man that seemed kinda spooky. “Marita, we won’t starve!” Eddie laughed, “I found coconuts.”
“Eddie, who were you talking to?” she asked
“Mr. Ethan,” Eddie said, turning around, “He told me about . . .hey, where did he go?”
Marita looked into the distance of the jungle and saw nothing. The man was standing there but then had disappeared into thin air. The whole thing was giving Marita a bad vibe. It just all felt wrong. “Eddie, “ she said, taking his hand, “Why don’t we go show Dr. Tony what you found?”
“Yeah, he’ll be so proud of me,” Eddie said with glee.
Marita took one final look for Ethan but could not see him. She wasn’t sure if she should tell the others about the man or not. It might have been completely harmless. However, she couldn’t shake her bad feeling.
