Part 12: Fashion Show

Marita and Yolanda had found a secluded section of the jungle. They rounded up a handful of clothes and took them with them. Marita grunted as she took off her panty hose. They were already torn and sand was getting stuck in between them. She looked around one more time before taking off her dress. She had found a pair of jeans, one leg already torn. She used the small scissors they found in the garment bag yesterday to cut off the other pants legs, making her a pair of jean shorts. Yolanda brought over a pair of tennis shoes and a flannel shirt for her. “Thanks, “ she smiled.

“How are you holding up?” Yolanda asked.

“My head aches from time to time, but we still got plenty of Advil. I’ll be fine.”

Yolanda put on an orange t-shirt that read Kung-Fu Fighter on it. She giggled and then placed back on her torn stewardess shirt, simply tying it at the bottom. Marita giggled at the mixture of light blue and orange. “What?” laughed Yolanda.

“Thank God, we’re not looking to win any fashion awards here.” She giggled.

“I know it’s hideous.” Yolanda sighed, “But it’s comfortable. Like Tony said, we got no idea how long it’ll be before they come and get us.”

Marita tied her shoes, “He’s a really smart man. Do you think he’s married?”

“He’s a doctor. Of course, he’s married.”

“You don’t know that.” Marita grunted.

“Why, my dear Rita, “ Yolanda giggled, “Are you getting the hots for the blind doctor?”

“No, of course not!” she protested, “I just . . .just curious is all.”

“Well, be curious then.”

Marita smirked. She had known Yolanda for a long time and the two friends could easily tell through their little white lies. “Oh, All right, “ she grunted, “I’ll admit I am attracted to him.”

“I thought so,” Yolanda playfully pushed her, “My recommendation is go for it, sweetie. He’s a smart man and a fine catch, if you can keep him. He’s gonna need someone to help him around anyway.”

“Yeah,” Marita said, smiling and standing up, “He does need someone, doesn’t he?”

The two friends gathered up the remainder of their collected clothing and started to walk down back to the beach. The clothing they found could be made use of by other people as well. As they walked, Marita started humming. Yolanda had thought she heard the song before but couldn’t recognize it. The Latina still hummed and then sung a small lyric from the song. “You all everybody.” She sung.

“What song is that?” Yolanda asked.

“It’s. . .uh . . it’s a song from a band called Driveshaft.” Marita laughed, “It’s crazy. I haven’t heard any of their songs since college. I wonder what the hell made me think of it after all this time?”
