Part 355: Settling Up

December 28th, 2004

Seth stood with the Mexican family as the elevator rose in the hospital. After arriving at floor 4, they got off. The doors closed back and the elevator rose two more floors and stopped at floor 6. Seth stepped off and proceeded to head down the hallway. It was time to see the friends he had grown up with his whole life, the ones that had been there for him and Tanya. One of them got seriously injured when the tried to defend his fiancé. It was high time Seth paid him a visit.

The singer knocked on the door to room 615. Inside the bulk of his friends were already there. Inge was with Dennis by the side wall; Samantha was sitting on her husband Ethan’s lap and Lizzie was propped up against the front wall under the TV. Dan was in the bed with bandages around the majority of his neck. Lizzie was the first one to notice the new arrival. “Seth!” she beamed.

“Hey, Polar bear.” He smiled.

The young girl ran up and hugged the man. Inge was the first to reply with another hug and Dennis shook his hand. Samantha came up and kissed him on the cheek, welcoming him home. Ethan shook his hand and embraced him like a brother. “Welcome home.” He smiled.

“Thanks, Ethan,” Seth patted him on the arm.

“Man, where you been?” Dennis smirked, “Hugging all those cameras and reporters?”

“Somebody has too,” the singer said, “After what I went through, Fame was inevitable.”

“With you, it always was, home skillet.”

“Poor Dan has been suffering here, Seth,” Inge said, crossing her arms, “Why haven’t you brought him flowers?”

Dan looked and up, flickering his eyebrows. It was all he could do considering his jaw was wired shut. Seth smiled and then reached into his jacket pocket. “Dan is not the type of man who wants flowers,” Seth informed them, “He wants a little bunny rabbit.”

Seth then pulled a stuffed white toy rabbit and dangled it in front of his wounded friend. “Hey, Dan,” he said, cooing as if his friend was a baby, “Loo at da lattle bunny! Loo ad da lattle bunny!”

Dan made a chuckling sound best he could, through his wired jaw. Seth placed it down on the roll-away table for eating his food. “We gonna head down to the bar later, now that you are back?” Dennis asked.

“We will this weekend but there is something I have to do in an hour,” the singer confessed, “But I’ll hit you guys up this weekend. You got to catch me up on the past three months.”

Seth worked his way over to Dan, taking his hand. His childhood friend looked up at him. The musician slowly lowered down and whispered to Dan, cause he didn’t want his other friends to hear. “Thank you for what you tried to do,” Seth told him, “I’m going to finish it.”

Dan shook his hand to tell him he understood what he just said. Seth was going after Bobby Wu for what he did to Tanya. The musician patted him on the shoulder and then proceeded to leave the room. He bid his friends farewell for the moment and headed into the hallway to head down to the elevator and out of the hospital.

His new friends were waiting for him.

Seth calmly sipped on his orange soda as he stood out his new Avalanche truck. Across the street was the Big Joy Chinese Restaurant and inside were at least ten Rojo Dragons, along with Bobby Wu. Tanya then came over to him, using her cane to walk. She stood next to him, tightening her coat from the cool December wind. “Thank you for this, Seth.” She whispered.

“No thanks are need, Tee,” he said, sipping on his soda, “I was going to visit him regardless.”

“I mean, thank you for including me. I half kinda expected you to . . .keep this from me.”

Seth smiled at her, then put his arm around her. “There was a little trick I learned on the Island,” he sighed, “If you keep secrets, then only bad things will happen.”

“Nice philosophy.” Tanya giggled.

Soon another vehicle pulled up in the street next to them, another black Avalanche. Jenny stepped out of the vehicle, wearing a windbreaker with a baseball cap and her blonde hair tucked out in the tag behind it. “We set?” she asked.

“Still waiting on the others,” Seth replied.

Then almost if on cue two more vehicles showed up. From out of one stepped Mandy and Alexander. Then from the other came Dutch. The surfer cracked his knuckles. “We set?” he asked.

“Just need one more,” Seth mentioned.

“We make war now?” Alexander asked.

“No, Alex,” Seth assured, “We’re going to scare them. That is where you come in.”

“Scare? Like RARRR??”

“Yeah, like Raaaaaa.” The singer agreed.

Mandy smirked, patting Alexander on the back and keeping him ready. Tanya just listened to the whole conversation and was royally confused. “Is he . . .okay?” she pointed to Alexander.

“He’s French.” Seth immediately replied.

“Oh, no,” Mandy giggled, “I think the temperature just dropped a few degrees.”

Everybody looked down the sideway. Walking up in his usual swagger and flowing overcoat, not to mention the cigarette smoke oozing from his mouth was Sawyer. The redneck walked up to the group, flopping his smoke into the street. “Thanks for coming, bad ass.” Seth smiled.

“Anything for a friend.” The southerner replied.

“Okay, Tanya,” Seth kissed her on the cheek, “You’re on.”

The blonde girl held onto her cane as she proceeded to walk over across the street. The group of friends gathered around Seth as they watched her enter the Chinese restaurant. Alexander scratched his cheek, just a little confused. “She go alone?” he asked.

“For now,” Mandy said, holding onto his arm.

“We’re going to give Bobby the chance to do the right thing,” Seth breathed deeply, “If he messes it up, then we give him a reason never to go near Tanya again.”

Jenny cracked her knuckles and rolled her head to warm it up. Dutch placed some chewing gum in his mouth and waited. Sawyer just kept his pockets in his jacket and watched. Across the street through the massive front window, they could see Tanya talking to Bobby. The Asian man was trying to touch her the whole time they talked. A vein on the side of Seth’s forehead slightly throbbed. He was hoping it wouldn’t come to this but his gut told it would. Bobby then slapped Tanya, grabbed her and threw on a nearby table. Seth then ran across the street the moment he saw that. His friends were right on his tail.

Seth then burst into the Chinese restaurant. He immediately walked over to Bobby. “Hey, Bobby,” he grunted, “Having a good time?”

“SETH?” the Asian man gulped.

The singer replied with a blow to the man’s jaw, then pulled Tanya off the table. When the other Rojo Dragons then got up off their feet, Jenny came in and went for the nearest person. She immediately rammed her foot in their knee, sending them down. The next man tried to grab her but she quickly grabbed his wrist, then slammed her other fist into the man’s elbow, popping it out of place. A woman in a Rojo Dragons jacket ran for her but Sawyer shoved her to the side; making her land in the exotic fish pond at the front of the establishment. “Settle down.” The redneck told her.

When the others tried to move them, Alexander came into the room. He walked up to nearby table and kicked it. The furniture flew into the air, flipping over and over ; smashing the nearest halogen lamps in the ceiling . A large man ran toward Alexander and punched him across the jaw. The big man reeled from the pain in his knuckles and the lost boy didn’t budge. Alexander then grabbed the Rojo Dragon by the middle of his jacket and then slowly lifted him upward.

Mandy smirked at the display of power; even feeling slightly aroused. Alexander was lifting up a large man who looked like he was 300 to 350 pounds and he was holding him up above his head. The show of fear worked. Upon seeing that, the Rojo Dragons then screamed and ran out of the Chinese restaurant. Sawyer even kicked the last person in the butt before they left the building. Alexander put the big man down and then he scrambled out of the building too. Then they turned their eyes on Seth and Bobby.

Seth was punching Bobby across the jaw over and over again. The Asian coughed up blood and tried to fight back but Seth brought him back down. Brendon had taught him well. Seth then kneed Bobby in the stomach and shoved him back through a pair of sliding gray doors into the kitchen. “NOT SO TOUGH NOW, EH, BOBBY?” Seth screamed.

“Seth, please,” he coughed.

“Too late to beg, Bobby Wu.” He said, reaching down to get him up, “You already got me in a bad attitude.”

“Seth, come on! We’re friends!”

“Not now, we aren’t.” Seth hissed.

The singer then rammed the Asian’s head into a nearby sink containing pig body parts. He held him in the water for a few seconds, then pulled him back out and then slammed him back in. Bobby shrugged to brief and the pig blood laced water made it ever harder. Seth then pulled him out and held him a headlock. The Asian coughed up the water from his lungs, mild as it was. “Now that you’ve caught your breath, you listen, Bobby, cause I am no longer in the habit of repeating myself,” Seth grunted, “You stay the hell away from Tanya. You so much as sneeze in her direction, I’ll know.”

“Seth, I’m sorry!” the gang member pleaded.

“An apology won’t fix her damaged knee, you piece of trash.”

Seth then threw him onto the ground and the moment he landed, he gave him a swift kick into the stomach. He then repeated it one more time. As Bobby laid on the ground, gasping for air; Seth kneeled down to look at him in the face. “I see you again, not only I am taking you down, I will be taking down your whole gang,” he warned.

“Huh?” he gasped.

“Your gang destroyed the life of a good person. And for that, they don’t deserve to exist.”

Seth spit on his face and then stood up, walking out of the back room. His group of friends then followed him out of the restaurant. After they got to their vehicles, they immediately started to pull out before the police arrived. Dutch already told them that won’t be a problem, cause Hal promised to cover for them. Seth thanked everybody for coming. He was glad they were there to help put his behind him.

Tanya turned the key to their bookstore that her family owned. It was during their planned holiday break so no one was there. Seth walked in and took a deep breath. He never realized how much he would miss the smell of all the books, magazines and videos, having not been around them for three months. “I’ll make us some coffee,” Tanya said.

“Cool,” Seth smiled, following her back to the café area.

Seth sat down at one of the tables next to the window overlooking the traffic. He gently sat down his jacket on another chair and looked around. The café was obviously empty but he remembered all those times back in high school coming here and flirting with Tanya. Tanya then came back from the back of the counter holding two coffee cups with steaming coffee in them. She held them both with one hand at their handles and used her cane to help her walk with the others. Seth wanted to help her but he also knew she was a proud woman. Even though she was temporarily handicapped, she wasn’t about to let anybody treat her as such. Seth took his cup and she sat down with the other.

He poured in his large amounts of cream and sugar like he always did. Tanya giggled, glad to see some things never change. “I don’t know if it was coffee I missed the most on that Island,” Seth smirked, “Or you.”

“I’m hoping it was me.” She laughed.

“It was,” he admitted, ending his small joke.

“Oh, come on, Sethie. There wasn’t any girl who caught your eye?”

“In all honesty?” he said, holding the cup to his lips, “They all did.”

Tanya giggled again, almost snorting. Seth smiled; loving her little quirks about her. The singer sipped on his coffee again and then put it down gently on the table. “There was one girl, named Kate,” he whispered, “She and I formed a very . . .special relationship.”

“Oh?” Tanya raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah. It was like . .karma. Like I was meant to find her. Had I been stuck on that Island . . for more than a year . ..I probably would have tried to form a relationship with her. Just over the fact, I would assume you thought I was dead and moved on.”

“Considering what I did with Bobby, I wouldn’t blame you.” The blonde sipped her coffee and then said, “What do you mean that you were meant to find her?”

Seth then reached over to his jacket and pulled out his journal. Tanya smiled, again liking that some things never changed. He pulled off the rubber band that held it together and then pulled out the photo of them at their favorite bar. He handed it to her and she smiled as she took it. “I always loved this photo of us.” She mentioned.

“You see the girl in the back? The Blonde tending bar?” Seth pointed.

“Yeah?”

“That’s her. That’s Kate.”

“NO WAY!” she gasped, looking closely, “THIS WOMAN . .. was on the Island?”

“What are the odds, huh?” Seth sipped on his coffee.

“What was she like?”

“She was a good person. She was kind, funny, gentle and not afraid to stand up for her friends. I . . .I will miss her.”

“Where is she now?”

Seth looked at her and then briefly shrugged his shoulders, telling her he didn’t know. Tanya gently put the photo down on top of the journal, then sipped on her coffee again. His fiancé then looked at him as he stared out of the window. “Seth,” she whispered, “ When you were . ..talking with Bobby, you mentioned the Rojo Dragons had destroyed the life of a good person. Who are you talking about?”

Seth took a deep sigh. “Brendon,” he whispered, “His name . . .was Brendon.”

“Who was he?”

Seth’s face slowly winced. He then looked over to Tanya. Her eyes slowly widened when she saw the tears streaming down his face. “He was my friend.” He admitted.

Tanya then reached over and took his hand. Seth squeezed it as he wiped his eyes. “I wish . .I wish he survived,” he wept, “I wish you could have known him. He was probably . . .the kindest soul I’ve ever met.”

“Tell me about him.” Tanya smiled.

Seth sipped on his coffee one more time and then placed it down. He then scooted his chair over to be with Tanya side by side. He gently took her hand again and the spent the majority of the evening tell her all about his good friend Brendon Battle.
