Part 210: The Colonel

Mia gagged as the rope gave way, and her ankles buckled as she landed on the ground. Locke jerked from Titus, seeing that the rope had been cut. The soldiers beside him were astounded. For a moment the old man thought the Island or the spirit her of her dead grandmother had saved her but in the end it was a simple machete. A machete belonging to an older man in green army clothes, with a scared face. Behind was even ANOTHER albino giant, with two more soldiers and a man in business clothes and glasses. The older man walked forward, looking at the soldiers. Pristine finally caught herself and straightened up her boy. “TEN HUT!” she screamed, “OFFICER ON DECK!”

Tony didn’t move. He was trying to heard everything that had just happened and trying to make sense of it. “Mia?” he asked.

“I’m. . .here . . .” she coughed, unhooking the noose from her neck.

“C . .Colonel, I wasn’t expecting you for another four days,” Belmont stumbled.

Locke leaned up, studying the man. The white hair soldier was the one they had been whispering about in half-toned conversations. The one they call the Colonel. The older man looked at Belmont but did not answer his question. He then looked to Locke and Tony, studying them both. With a deep sigh, he walked over to the bald man still resting on his knees. He kneeled down so he could stare at him face to face. “He knows about the Island, sir but he refuses to tell us anything,” Belmont then mentioned.

“How long have your tortured him?” the Colonel asked.

“Two days, sir and all we have is nothing,” his second told him.

“That is probably because . . .they know nothing.”

Belmont blinked. “Can you tell that, sir?”

“Yes, even though the Island has marked him.”

“Marked me?” Locke was confused.

The Colonel then pulled down his right cheek to reveal the scar going down his eye. The bald man then blinked and gasped when he understood it was the exact same scar on his face. The scar he received from the crash. The Colonel then stood up, and walked over to Tony. He started him briefly, then looked back toward Mia. The Lakota girl coughed, laying on the ground, scared to move. The Colonel kneeled down and looked at her. The girl stared up at him, seeing his eyes were surrounded by red lines. He looked like he was half-dead. “Mia,” he whispered.

The Lakota girl blinked. Belmont also was confused. Why would the Colonel be interested in her? “Did you . .uh . .here them calling her name, sir?” he asked.

“Actually, I didn’t,” he stood up.

Colonel Fender walked over to Belmont, staring at him. “The prisoners know nothing,” he said, “Send them back to the bunker. All torturing is placed on hold till further notice. You will brief me on everything that had transpired in the past few days.”

“Sir, it is my duty to inform you that Frakes is wounded.” Belmont replied, “Three prisoners have escaped with the aide of . . .another crash survivor.”

Colonel Fender approached him again. “Did you not hear what I just said?” he hissed, “All of it is placed on hold until I am properly debriefed, is that clear?”

“Crystal, sir,” the blonde leader agreed.

“Brooklyn, get the prisoners back into the bunker. Especially . . . .be careful with the girl,” the Colonel ordered, “Pristine, inform the Rogue they made commence their run.”

“Aye, sir,” she said, pulling out her walkie talkie.

“Belmont, make sure Frakes is taken care of and recall all roaming patrols. They will seek out the escaped prisoners at first light.”

“Very good, sir,” Belmont obeyed.

The albino known as Brooklyn walked over the other giant Texas and embraced him briefly. Locke noticed certain similarities in their brow and cheek bones; it was safe to say these two were brothers. Brooklyn then walked over to Tony and then kicked him over, making him land on his back. Then he walked over and picked up Mia by the back of her jean jacket, dragging her to Tony. The blind man grunted as the giant placed her onto him. “Hold her,” he grunted.

Tony quickly wrapped his arms around her. Mia leaned up, still groggy from her near strangulation. Brooklyn then picked up Tony by the back of his shirt and began to drag him and Mia toward the bunker. On the way, he grabbing Locke by his arm and started to drag him. As they were being dragged back toward their friends, Mia struggled to look up. The Colonel looked at her with an intense curiosity. “Farewell, Mia,” he whispered, “We will speak again soon.”

“Do you know that guy?” Tony grunted as he was being dragged.

“Never . . .seen . .him before,” Mia coughed.

“Clearly, he is in charge, “Locke grunted from the giant pulling his arm, “Where it goes from here is anybodies guess.”

Another soldier unlocked the door and the giant Brooklyn tossed Locke in first, then Tony and Mia second. As the door closed, their friends were there to greet them. John immediately picked up Mia and carried her back. Marita let Tony hold onto her as they walked and Jack and Kate helped Locke toward the back. The archer set down his love and accepted the pale of water from Ana-Lucia. He gently scooped out the ladle and let Mia drink. She massaged her neck, trying to keep from crying. “I thought . ..I thought that was it,” she whimpered.

“So did we, darlin,” John said, placing his forehead up to hers.

Marita started to unloosen the rope against Tony’s wrists. The moment Kate got Locke’s back, he walked over to check on Mia. She still had a sore throat but was able to breathe. Clay was the one who was confused by the whole ordeal. “Now there are two white giants,” he commented, “Wonderful.”

“Tony, why were they going to hang Mia?” Libby asked.

“They were going to hang her cause of what just happened earlier this morning,” he said, leaning up, “Barbara, Jilly and Kellye aren’t coming back anytime soon,”

“They are dead?” Joe whimpered.

“No, Josecelyn, they are free,” Tony chuckled, “Eddie saved his mother.”

“Eddie?” Jack was flabbergasted.

“I never knew he was this resourceful,” Kate giggled.

“But Eddie will go back to the others,” the doctor commented, “They will come for us, right?”

“I am sure they will try, Jack,” Tony slowly stood up, “ But there is at least 50 to 60 hardened soldiers out there.”

“Sayid will have a plan,” he swallowed, “I know he will.”
