Part 132: The Upcoming Feast

The crew had finally arrived back at the beach. A few of the other survivors looked at them and marveled at what they brought. McKay held one dead boar over his back and Tony carried the other. A few of them started to cheer. The Australian smiled, glad he and his friends were able to gain the trust over the majority of the crowd by bringing in food.

They placed the two boars down while the other survivors immediately started to prepare a bar-b-q pit, like Locke had shown them. A few of them came over and patted John on the back, congradulating him. The archer admitted to himself he enjoyed the elation. He couldn’t get the gold medal back in the real world but here to all of them, he was a gold medalist.

Eddie smiled, glad to see that the others were enjoying over the two boars being brought. But it didn’t change how he felt over his father being buried. He walked over and gently pulled on Marita’s finger. The Latina kneeled down, putting her arm around his shoulder. “We’ll have some meat soon, Eddie.” She whispered.

“I know but . . I want to be alone,” he whimpered, “Is that okay?

Tony turned around, “Do you want one of us to be with you, Eddie?”

“No, that’s okay, Tony. Just me and Mr. Kangaroo.” The boy sighed, “Is it okay if I go be alone?”

Tony shook his head, “Sure it is. Just please don’t wander far.”

“I won’t.” he said, hugging Marita.

The Latina stood up, watching the little boy leave. He walked over to the main tent, strode in, picked up his kangaroo toy and left. Marita reached over and slowly hugged Tony. The blind doctor returned the embrace. “It’s okay,” he sighed, “He just needs time.”

“I’m so worried about him, Tony,” she sniffed, “He’s seen more than any 9 nine year should see.”

“He’ll get through this. He’s strong. And he knows we’ll all be there for him when he needs us.”

More survivors came over with the bar-b-q stand Locke made. John tied the cord to the boar’s feet and then pulled it upward, hanging it from a tree. McKay pulled out his sword and began to cut it open, preparing it for cooking. Kate smiled, as she was about to go to Locke to prepare the boar but the Australian surprised her by being able to prepare it himself. Then she heard a familiar wisped breathing. She turned to see Hurley coming up the beach followed by Jack and Sayid. Sawyer was in the distance coming up as well.

Hurley paused, looking at the two boars that McKay was preparing to cook. John saw the large man and waved to him. “Hurley!” He laughed, waving at him, “We couldn’t find four boars. Is two all right?”

The large man smiled. He didn’t say a word. He then walked up to the area where John was and then embraced him. The archer laughed and grunted at the same time, as the giant man put him in a bear hug. Kate giggled watching Hurley’s display of affection. Jack and Sayid paused next to Kate. “Wow.” Jack muttered.

“John hit them both at the same time,” Kate told them, “I don’t recall seeing anybody as good a shot as him.”

“It’s wonderful that they have the skills to assist us, “Sayid smiled, “I am glad they made it to this side.”

“Me too, “Jack replied, then caught a glimpse of something in Kate’s hand, “What is that?”

“This?” Kate said, holding up the money belt, “We found this on the body we thought was Eddie’s mother. Turns out to be a different woman.”

“That is a shame.” Sayid muttered.

“Yeah but for a nine year old, he seems to be handling it quite well.”

“What was in that thing?” Jack asked.

“Roughly 700 dollars. Lot of good that’ll do here, huh?” Kate smiled.

Jack raised an eyebrow. There was a weird shift in his friend’s tone, almost as if she was lying. But why would she bother to lie about that? Before Jack could say anything, he caught Sawyer walking up the two men who caught the boars. He looked them over as McKay was sawing into the meat, pulling it’s guts out. The southern man then looked back to Kate. “Hey, Freckles!” he called, “How do you think Locke will feel getting replaced by another bald man?”

Kate smirked, with a disapproving stare. McKay just sighed, shaking his head. The southern man walked to McKay. He looked the dead animal up and down, then said, “You know? I think I got two bottles of Worchester sauce that would be good with these hogs.”

“Then why don’t you bring them over?” the Australian asked.

“Naw, that’s two easy,” he grinned, “I would be willing to trade for them.”

“Are you serious?” John piped in.

“Easy, John. I’ve already heard that this is the way Sawyer is,” McKay sighed, “What will you take in trade, Sawyer?”

“How about an. . .hour alone with Taylor?” he grinned smugly.

McKay flashed a glance at him. Sawyer then raised his hands in defense. “OH!” he said, laughing, “Okay, how about thirty minutes? I’ll skip the fore-play.”

McKay held up his bloody sword to him, “You really want me to hurt you, don’t you?”

“Like you could try, bad ass.” Sawyer then pulled out a cigarette and tried to light it but his lighter wasn’t working.

McKay then pulled out his zippo from his shirt pocket and lit it up for him. Sawyer proceeded to smoke it, and the Australian slowly put his lighter back in his pocket. “Thanks, “ he smiled, “Think about it, Curley,”

John watched Sawyer walk away. The archer was completing disgusted the man would ask such a thing. “The nerve of that bastard.” He muttered.

“Let it go, mate,” McKay huffed, “I’ve dealt with his kind before. He wants me to fight him. I won’t give him the satisfaction.”

“You are a better man than he is, McKay,” Sayid commented.

Kate smiled at the man, then started to walk after Sawyer. Jack looked at her, and then said, “Where are you going, Kate?”

“Talk to Sawyer,” she said, “I think I finally known what my carte blanche will be.”

Jack was confused, but Sayid just laughed, patting him on the shoulder. The survivors continued to gather around McKay and John, as they prepared their meal.
